yep.
Ive applied to over 100 places in the last 3 weeks. And yes Ive been following up and emailing and calling but everyone is just taking their sweet time looking for candidates.
Sucks being a college grad, engaged, and living in your parents guest bedroom.

Money is money; can you be a handyman or a babysitter? Both with the right energy applied can make some pretty good money.
I know that jobs are not out there, but everyone and I mean everyone either needs a handyman or a babysitter.
The need for male nurse assistants, no medical education required. A young strong man can get a job in an assisted care facility in a heat beat.
With the knowledge you have of saltwater fish you could probably make some cash taking care of or setting up tanks for offices and rich people who want the tank but not the work.
I agree it really sucks to go to school and not be able to find something in the field you wanted, but I know that there is always something a healthy young man can do.
This concludes your pep talk for today...Hang in there, the only place left to go from your parents house is up.

totally agree with Flower. But also keep in mind that NO one right now is hiring just because it is the end of the year. In all my years of employment, I do not recall anyone coming on after TDay. Only because it is crunch time with year end budgets and new year budgets.
Keep doing what you are doing, but just cut yourself some slack for the next few weeks.

you are in good company, my friend. i'm a 25 year old college grad two times over, and i work for the LFS despite having 3 years experience as a flight medic. i've had to learn to not be too proud and to take what i can get. things will turn around, just keep doing the footwork.

I was in the exact situation last year Graduated with an Accounting degree last December between Oct and Febuary I must have sent out hundreds of Resumes and was working with three well known employment agencies, and I still collected for three months after graduation. The irony being that of all the resumes I sent out it was actually one I had put online on monster back in October that got me a job, my current employer found it go figure. It is quite depressing stay strong Brother

Keep your head up, man. There are more of us, like you, out there.
I've been unemployed since the end of August. Hundreds of resumes, applications, job fairs...nothing. I also have a college degree and hit an all time low (what it felt like, to me) when I went and put in an app at a local fast food place...I didn't even get a call for an interview.

WOW...it's good to hear that there are acutually people that will work "anywhere"
I have seen too many people who WILL NOT take a job cause it is not up to their standards...as Flower said above MONEY IS MONEY regardless of how you make it (legally preferred LOL)
I would have shoveled sh+t if I had to in order to feed my kids (sure glad I never had to though)
I'll be thinking of you JTT....good luck in your job search

Ahhh yes, it always always better to be underemployed then unemployed. But still quite frustrating none the least.

I came in to the job market in the late 70's, I feel for you but once things take off you will be in demand. Hang in there.

you know what i've been thinking... i want to put an ad out for tank maintenance. a buddy of mine does it and gets good business. just as a side job to see if i can make something of it. since i work at the LFS and get good discounts, i can charge them full price and make $ off the livestock plus the maintenance fee.

I got outsourced a year ago last August. This year, I've had 4 - count 'em - 4 interviews. I got a head hunter working for me, I'm on Monster, etc. There's nothing out there in my field.
Currently underemployed at Bed Bath and Beyond. In actuality? I really like the job. I just wish it paid more than 1/5 what I used to make...
Everything is cyclical. It'll come back. I've been working since 1975. This is the ugliest downturn I've experienced. It's just gonna take a little more time this time around.
OTOH - the Great Depression this is not.

Be carerful that your LFS doesn't mind you making money on their corals instead of them!

Maybe it's because we started a lot higher but the late 70's sure seemed a lot worse than this to me. Not only couldn't you find a job but double digit inflation and interest rates. Good time to have money in the bank though. In the early 90's my uncle still had a couple of CD's he had bought around that time that were paying better than 10%.

yeah, strangly enough the job I found was a cold call. All the contacts and recruiters never came through...

yeah, that probably isn't a good idea at all. 2 things, most shop owners won't be cool with you using their niceness (of a discount) to turn around and make a profit. 2nd they won't be happy if you screw something up (in the mind of your customer) and they show up at the LFS thinking you're somehow associated with them...
What you really should do if you want to do that, is go to your employeer and let them know that you're planning on doing that. And cut a deal with them.

Man I had a friend who used to be a store manager for Bed Bath and Beyond. Those stores are awesome! She said their margin was around 50% and they would do 70k a day during the holidays. I need to open me one of those.

lol - I do love the store. It's a dangerous place to work though, because I want everything in the kitchen section...

And, yeah, we're turning close to 80k a day right now (and mine is one of their smaller stores) - up between 8 and 17% on a day to day basis from last year. If that's any indication, the economy is
coming back.

oh wait, never mind, Bed Bath and Beyond is not Bath and Body works. (I always get those two store names confused) As you can tell, I'm not a shopper.
