i have a red linka star i acc him only for 1 hr, he did fin for a month or so, now he stop moving and just is on the glass, a piece of his arm ( about 1/2 inch) fell off. could tat be the reason he has been so inactive. For the last couple of days he would have his legs curled up. but now there all stright. and i could see sometimes a slim triace when he moved. should i take him out of the tank or leave him in incase he makes it.

Sounds like he is slowly dying. Linkia starfish are extremely difficult to maintain, and the one hour acclimation probably did not do him much good either. What are your water levels?

Well Fenner and the people over WWM seem to think it can be good for linckia's to consume a little bit of frozen food (shrimp, krill, etc.) every now and then. I have never kept a red, but I assumed that red's are similiar to orange, blue, and purple linckia's. Was I terribly wrong in this assumption? I have tried feeding small bits of shrimp and krill to other linckia's (as I have never kept a red) and it never seemed to be a bad thing for the star. My line of thinking was that reefermon possibly did not have enough live rock or food in the tank for the star to eat, so the star could possibly benefit from a little target feeding every now and then. Do you disagree?

If they actually eat it I suppose it's a good thing. I just don't think anyone knows what a Red Linckia really eats.
Perhaps Ophiura can help here, I know she has studied Linckia.

Yeah, that's true in not knowing what they really eat, but I figured that offering a variety of different things could not be any worse for it than what is happening right now to the starfish.
Hopefully Ophiura will jump on the boards one of these days. There is another starfish question in another thread that is just calling her name as well.

Poor acclimation is your answer. Starvation takes 6 months or more.
