Yep, me too. Other then the club forums or seeing whats available for sale, stayed there and reef fish.
It was weird though, I guess I was 'there' for the crash. I had just posted on the Rock Beauty thread, left and got a drink, checked my emails, refreshed the page once or twice, then poof. It never loaded any more....

I just saw a post elsewhere from one of the lounge lizards saying he got a forward of an E-mail from Doug (Beerguy) saying its not true so stay tuned........

As for my 2 cents. It doesn't take much to get stuff up and back running from scratch new. They paid some company for the HTML they would still have a copy of that some where if they were worth their salt. And minus whatever hardware damage they had. (a week from dell if that much) upload the website, and whammy. You've got yourself a website. It isn't that much work. They have people handing them money still. It just wouldn't make sense for them to walk away. There is just too much value in that member list. Even if they completely lost it. People would still go back. They are the biggest fish forum online after all. A week down isn't going to change that.

The truth is that during an upgrade to mySQL we encountered an error that needed to be corrected. Unlike most sites, our database is very large and routine checks can take quite a long time to run. That's one of the reasons why we're one of the few sites that runs a full nightly backup. We'll be back this morning with virtually zero data loss. Sorry to disappoint the folks forging the emails.
Slander and libel are pretty serious things.

I think most of you noticed that Reefcentral.com, the largest board for reefkeeping hobbyists, has been offline since the 15th of Juli a little after 7am CST. Besides that Reefkeeping magazine has been out of commission since April.
Yesterday it was still uncertain if the site was down because of maintenance, but today Doug (Beerguy, staff --) has supposedly said that all the recovery files and the databases have been destroyed, and that there is no way to recover those necessary items. This would mean Reefcentral.com won’t be online again within a short period and maybe never again.
Editor’s Note: The outlook on Reef Central is looking grim. -- certainly had it’s detractors, however, this potential loss is a huge set back to the hobby. In a single day, or days, the amount of revenue -- loses is tremendous. Given that, and the fact it is ranked #76 across all online message boards we still have hope that the site will make its way back up.
What we do know is -- was using extremely dated software leaving it vulnerable to issues. It is an unfortunate reminder to back up and re-back up all your files no longer how large or small–and keep your software up to date.
UPDATE: Admin mhurley has updated (?) us on the situation. According to that statement Reef Central was hacked.

Don't recall anyone ever saying it wasn't a loss...
But for me personally, it wasn't. For the hobby in general, it'd be detrimental.
Considering it is, in fact gone...
