Most will. PCs put off the least heat. Metal halide the most. Theres ways to control it like fans and raiseing the lights high above the water but sometimes a chiller is needed to keep the temp in a good range.

Dogstar said it well, but different size tanks vary in how much they are heated also, but you can use fans in the canopy to control alot of heat or a small clip on fan on your sump/fuge works well also.

Light is energy. Putting energy into a tank will cause heat. The more light the more heat. The source of the light is irrelevant, it's the amount of light penetrating the water minus the light reflected out of the tank.

Do you run any fans when your lights are running?

Yes, the water temp in my 120g reef fluctuates about 2 degrees with the lights coming on and off. I have 2 250w MH about 12" above the water, no fans, on a topless tank.
