I have converted the center chamber of my 14 biocube into a fuge. Razorbladed the paint off the back glass and have a light attached w/suction cup to the back vertically. It has been on 24/7 for well over a year. It is virtually a cheato factory, gets much more light this way than from above. I am more comfortable with it all contained inside the tank, on kitchen counter and don't want to ruin my new cabinets.
I could take photos if anyone cared to see it.
i would like to see some pics

Just in case you guys weren't aware, My Oceanic 29 BC already has a clear window in the back of the tank for light. Though it doesn't mention any refugium mods in the manual, maybe enough people have suggested they do this on new versions.

I think I understand, but I was hoping you could clarify for my particular tank.
I have a AquaEuro 29 that has the three chambers mentioned. The first is a sponge on the bottom half and my skimmer above it. Next chamber- the big one, has 2 bags of ceramic tubes, bag of carbon, and bio balls. The third chamber has 2 blowers.
So.......for clarification, I take the stuff (everything) from chamber 1 and 2. I place the bag of Chemipure Elite and Purigen in chamber 1, and chaeto on a bed of live rock rubble in chamber 2. The submersible light is also in chamber 2.
I really want to do this but I want to make sure its ok to disrupt the tank by making that change all at once. Also, I notice that my 3 chambers dont have much water flow, which I dont get. It seems there should be movement and I don't see it all.
I appreciate your help. I hate beating dead horses but I am afraid to try it without direct input. I want to start putting a few sps in my tank, but want ity healthy as can be.

Thanks

in chamber one take out only the sponge. leave the skimmer and add the chemipure elite. with purigen.
for chamber two add the chaetomorpha and NOOOOOO Live rock rubble. please that will create nitrates when you move the rock in the back. just add the chaeto.
now chamber 3 i really never seen aquaeuro so please explain more

I tried to post a picture but I cant figure out this new system. The third chamber has 2 pumps in it that attach to the jets that are horizontal in the chamber (like the biocube- there are just 2)
Also - how much chaetomorpha do you think I need?

I just bought a used established 24g jbj nano cube. He was using bio balls and other stuff in the back and I am wanting to add a refugium. It seemed like some people just turned the middle of chamber into a refugium without any other adjustments? How does the chaeto stay in just that chamber?
I too am considering buying the intake media chamber, does anyone have input on that? The other option I like is the soap dish in the main aquarium so I don't have to add any lights. How does that work? Does the chaeto ever escape into the main tank, and if so is that a huge pain to fix? I'm just looking for the best way to add a refugium to my particular tank, and extensive googling/forum searching has led me here, but I'd still like some more specific help as I'm pretty new to this. Thanks in advance.

I have the same exact tank as you and have put in a DIY fuge fairly easy. An easy way (though unattractive) to keep the chateo contained in that middle chamber is to use a plastic cup (the kind you use at a gas station for a slurpie) which you then poke many holes in. Just fill it up with chateo and place it in the chamber. Over time you may have to give your cup a hair cut but that's easy lol. I don't have the filter media basket for the first chamber right now but I plan on getting one, if you want it I would say get it... This summer I plan on revising my fuge in which I will make my own plexiglass box with holes which will be able to hang much like the filter media basket. This idea may be in the works from the company that makes the chamber 1 basket so keep an eye out. Here's my fuge layout for the JBJ 24g which can hopefully help you out. Oh and the chateo has yet to make it into the display tank... but if for whatever reason your chateo starts getting into the DT just put some plastic mesh over the 3rd chamber intake slits.

Wow soviettaco, thank you so much! I actually added a question for you in a comment on one of your youtube videos today but I'm not sure if it went through lol. Yes, that diagram is awesome! What holds the plastic cup in place though?

I have almost The exact same set up as soviet taco. Except I have a 3 inch plexi box in the center chamber with some live rock followed by the chaeto. Then a nano glo through the back glass. It works greAt.

Cool I look for the question, sometimes youtube does not register that people have commented on your videos which is really stupid. Thanks and the plastic cup holds itself up, I forgot to say that, you want a cup that is a little wider then the chamber so you can sort of wedge it in there. Also don't forget about the light! Magnet lights work best IMO.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have had my fuge going for a little less than a month now, and I am now aware of what it means to have "polished" water. Even my non-SWF friend was impressed with the water quality. JUST DO IT is all I have to say about that. :)
