What do I do in this case since it might be in there now? Also what is the cause for it and how can I prevent this in the future?
Test for phosphates, TDS, don't overfeed the tank. You may have given it a little bit of help with the new lighting cycle. Maybe cut down on the lighting and then bring it back up slowly once you feel comfortable that you've got it under control. Manually remove any of it as soon as you find it before it gets out of hand. Avoid topping off with any tap water...just stick with the R/O. Those are a few things you can start trying. Keep us informed. The cause can be a few different things. Google Cyano Bacteria and how to prevent/get rid of it. There's lots of speculation on which is the best way.

What should my TDS be? Because it's VERY high when I'm checking it out in the tank. Or do you mean like my top off water? Because it's 0 when I get it out of my RO/DI. My lighting in my fuge is with the 6500k 100w bulb and for around 12 hours. Should I lower the time?

TDS should be 0 from teh ro/di unit
fuge time seems fine to me........Do you have a phosphate test kit?

Oh and Corey to answer you... no, it really hasn't grown much... I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. Then again, I don't know how small it was when I bought it. They said a handful was what they gave me, so maybe it grew triple its size now?

PRAY... PRAY HARD...
Good circulation, mindful of lighting schedule, what out for phosphates (use ro/di water not tap yada yada), oh and PRAY...

Any suggestions on test kits that include really everything?

API saltwater master kit AND API Master reef kit. Purchase those two and you will have whatever you need.
Great, I will get both of those. I went to my LFS yesterday and went to pick up Calcium test and Phosphate test and saw they were $30 a piece! Is that normal!?!?

I'm sorry I don't recall. I noticed the price and just kept staring at the tag... didn't look at any brand name or anything. I think I was in shock haha.

I'd just look around online. The API calcium kit is only like $8 bucks but I don't know how accurate they are. Salifert is supposed to be a good brand and theirs go for about $25. Once you start keeping corals like that it's probably a good idea to bite the bullet and get everything....calcium, magnesium, silicate, alkalinity, iodine...etc.

For calcium...online Salifert will run about $25
Phosphate about $20
Magnesium about $25
What I did was order one here and there......I trust API for the basics.....I just wanted something highly receommended for teh calcium and such....IMO go Salifert for Calcium
stay away from Red Sea...I have a couple and are not 100% happy with them.....so ended up replacing some...which costs even more...LOL
If you go to ta place called thereeftank.com they do price comparisons...just type in the search field what yo uare looking for and they give you a list of suppliers and their prices
