Refugium size vs tank size

I understand any size refugium to be better than none. Bigger is better but is there a rule like 1 gallon refugium to 20 gallons of display to be effective. What size refugium to size of tank?

Well, on my 90g I have a 30g fuge. But on my 60g, I have a 55g fuge. IMO, the biggest you can fit within reason.

there is no rule that I know of...bigger is always better here.....I set up a sump refugium for a friend who has limited space for his DT...a 72 gallon bow...the sump/refugium is 90 gallons.......
Personally, I would shoot for at least a 1 gallon of fug for every 10 gallons of DT...but it is just MHO.....
As the other posters noted..usually whatever can easily fit in the area you have.......

I think its best to have at least 30% of tank volume for the fuge by itself.
IMHO a 10 gal fuge on a 100 gal tank does little to nothing........

For nutrient removal bigger is always better. If you have a container with a footprint bigger then 2 square feet then you can also use a remote deep sand bed to remove additional nitrates, otherwise I'd suggest about 1/2 inch of live sand and chaetomorpha. When the chaetomorpha ball stops spinning or covers more than 3/4 of the tank surface harvest it back until it spins freely and take up less than 1/2 of the tank surface.

I have a 175 bow and i am making a 90 gal fuge. With a nice DSB and lots of macro algae. I cant wait to get it done, so that i can add my pods and get my mandarins..

I like my bow. looks really nice. only drawback is when looking in the tank u need to look directly in. can't really lool at angle or the bent glass distorts it.
