IMO yes it is, a 10g tank has very little nitrate processing capacity because of the small size so anything you can do to increase the volume of the water and provide extra nitrate processing is going to be a benifit.

Okay, is a 18" HOB fine for my tank? I dont want to make my own out of another tank.
Comes in two sizes (18" & 24") and features a baffle system that prevents the substrate and organisms from being disturbed while allowing enough water flow to eliminate stagnant areas. This provides ideal conditions for growing copepods, amphipods and other organisms which can then feed invertebrates and fish in the main tank. It also provides a controlled growing area for macroalgae which helps to reduce nuisance algae and provides a nursery area for a variety of organisms.
Also what should I be putting into it? cheto?
I'm new to SW all info is appreciated

the bigger the better as I am sure you have heard before so if you have room for the 24" one then I would get that, the main thing you want in there is your chaeto and if you have room for a couple pieces of LR rubble. at the petsprmrkt I work at we sell 10g tanks for 13.99, if you have some extra cash then it might be cheaper to build your own and you can add a DSB to a tank also, not sure how much room comes with the pre-built ones... ( I know you said you don't wanna build your own but just a suggestion to save some money..)

yeah thats us pricing lol I bought my 10g kit for like 130CAN everything is so much more money here for aquarium stuff. Plus I rather have the HOB one because if I were to make my own I wouldnt have anywhere to put it away from sight, and IMI its ugly looking. I have a thread in the nano forum with pictures of my tank and concerns if you want to take a look at that.

nice start man, the hang on fuge will work for you... do you know all the dimensions of it or just the length? Chaeto is your best bet for a hang on IMO since you have limited space, you will just have to get a little clip on light (unless it comes in the hang on package). do you have a link to what your looking at so I can picture it in my head better?

If you are looking to build a diy fuge from an hob filter may I suggest the Aqua Clear, perhps the 110 if it will fit. There are many detailed diy threads out there. Here let me google that for you.

nope I was told i dont need one but i was going to buy this cheap skimmer just for the surface because i always see stuff floating around o nthe surface.
http://www.mopsdirect.us/cgi-bin/Sof...400+1241487849
why?
Because you can get a skimmer and also use it as a fuge....For example look up bakpak 2.....in the 2nd compartment you can put lr rubble, and chaeto, and get away with a clip on light
That's what I have, and when the time comes that is what I am going to do with the other half....kinda kills 2 birds with one stone....know what I mean
