Funny, I have the tap water filter and am looking for an ro unit. I am having a terrible cyano problem and the only thing I can think it is is my water quality and ive been using the tap water filter.

I think there are only two RO membrane manufacturers in the country..If they use Dow membranes then its probably the same 90% rejection rate unless they do like Sperctrapure does and test each memebrane. Even then the 100 gpd is not tested by Spectrapure.
If you plan to buy one of these membranes why take the chance on the 100 gpd, why not just use the 80 gpd?
Spectrapure sells the best membranes I know of, not because they make em its because they test em. If you look on their site you'll see they don't list anything over 90 gals.
Here's my thought on this whole thing
It seems that all we see nowdays is 100 gpd RO units sold on ---- and places like at real cheap prices. Why are we seeing just the 100 gpd units? I still think these units are a good deal (with clear casecanisters, not the solid color cases) when you look at th ecost of a specratpure unit..
FWIW, my tap water test out any where from 170-240 TDS. I get zero TDS off my RO membrane (not RODI) That's pretty good if you ask me. It pretty much makes my DI last for a long lone time.

I am using FilmTec membranes. I am certainly not seeing a long life on my membranes. I was also looking to replace the ro unit because of the high waste. I found a company here locally that actually makes filter cartridges and have been in contact with them. They offered to give me a free filter kit to try out, especially since they have not hit the aquarium market yet. Their filters remove everything but Calcium and the Hardness. Not being the water chemist many of you are maybe someone could give me an idea of what effect the hardness will have on the balance of my aquarium.

Any opinions on the spec's of this unit I found online for $124?
This unit is the 4 stage 75gpd RO/DI unit. This unit has a 1 micron sediment prefilter, a 2 micron carbon block, a 75gpd Dow Filmtec RO membrane, and a color changing DI cartridge. It also includes everything you need to install it including a manual shutoff valve.
Also, how much pressure does one of these units put out. I'm wondering how far away I can put the storage water from the unit, which obiviously needs to be near a drain.
