Ro/DI Water storage

I let mine run to fill up a large trash can (about 45-50 gallons) just to have it on hand for topping off the tank.
I also have a 2nd can for mixing saltwater for a water changes.
I keep both cans covered when in use?
I seem to be getting a build up of film on the storage cans which I think is feeding a breakout of cyno.
Never had any problems before, tank is 1.5 years old.
Do most of you just run the ro/di when you need it or do you make a bunch and store it?
If so is there anything I'm not doing but should be to store the water?

Prior to my getting a RODI unit I used to store saltwater as well as rodi water just fine. I use a airstone in the containers to keep it moving, keep it in a coold dark place......The darker the container its stored in the better so as to reduce any light nfiltration which may spur on algae or other growths.......Our water is kept ina unused hall bathroom where its totally dark and pretty cool. If yur going to store it you need to aerate or agitate it during storage.........If storage containers are CLEAN there should not be any increase in ammonia etc, or break down of any organics, but just make sure your containers are spotless.........cool , dark and aerated.

Containers are clean, bought them brand new, those grey commercial style trash cans w/ lids.
Stored in basement so no light gets to it.
I'll try to air stones. When I mix the salt water for changes I have a power head (just for mixing) and heater in there.
Loodachris i'm in S. Jersey, Haddonfield. How about you?

Don't store RO/DI water for any length of time. Water that has been stripped of its ions will be hungry to dissolve anything it can including plastic.
Mix it into saltwater or use it within a couple of days.

What about water sold in store and in 5 gal. jugs? Some of this sits for months in clear containers.I've never had anyone return rotten water.
