Rock Turning White

I had my tank set up for a few days now. This morning I noticed that the rock is turning white. Is this part of the cycle?
The photo below is right before putting the rock in the tank.

Here is what it looks like now.

Any ideas whats causing this?

That is just normal for new live rock. There is going to be some die-off of the algae on the rocks, but its nothing to worry about. Actually live rock will change throughout its life in the tank as different things grow, die-off, new things grow back, etc.

I wouldn't do a water change until I notice Nitrites. Let it stew, don't fight the cycle let it get started first. Then bring it down once the tank gets rolling. The rocks will color back up. You never going to get it low enough to not hurt the corals that are on it.

What corals are on the rocks? You had the rocks out of water and live rock does not usually come with corals.

It came with a few clams, feather dusters, Tube Coral, and other living things, The only time the rocks were out of the water was when I was un packing them from the box. Than they went staraight to the tank. I have never seen corals on rocks either. First time I seen it too. Had to buy some. http://www.liverocknreef.com/liverock/index.php?l=product_detail&p=7920

I disagree. With life on the rocks I would definitely be doing water changes.

+1
If it was my tank I would do water changes as frequently as needed to maintain ammonia between 0.25ppm and 0.50ppm. That's plenty of ammonia to feed and grow bacteria and yet low enough for the rock infauna to survive.

IMHO to bring down ammonia and maintain it hes going to spend a crap load in RODI water along with salt. The stuff that is on the rock has already been dying that's how you get a 2.0 spike. My opinion and you can take it for what it is, let the tank start the cycle then try to fight it. Otherwise your going to get frustrated before you even start.
Worried about inverts on the rock, weight that verses the cost of buying a few bags of pods and other inverts. I just don't see the cost benefit. Lord knows how long the rock has been sitting in boxes. I have been to the suppliers and I am telling you first hand these boxes will sit for weeks sometimes wrapped in newspaper and then inside a plastic bag. Then they ship it to you, I stand by my first comment and say let the tank establish itself.
