So since I really want to do this right, I've decided that against my own will I will....those of week constitution may want to sit down....SPLURGE ON AN RODI UNIT *gasp*
Anyways I really dont want to spend much more then $100....I know you get what you pay for, but I'm not planning on keeping SPS, and I'm not even 100% set on any corals at all. I just need to bring down the TDS of my tap....because its over 600 =S
My tank is 55g and I will have probably another 15gallons between the sump and fuge.
I've been browsing around, and have been looking at the mighty-mite from airwaterice.
It's only 50gpd....which concerns me, but not much less then even the 100gpd units....does this mean I am really going to fill my tank up over 24 hours? =S (for the 50gpd unit)
For the initial fill would there be someway of putting the output directly to my tank? (its about 2 feet higher then my bathroom sink and maybe 10 feet away) Rather then filling up a 5 gallon bucket over 2-3 hours....12 times....

A 50gpd unit is fine for your needs as long as you're a patient person.
You can hook it up directly using an automatic shutoff but I recommend against it (there's too much that can go wrong). If you have a sump then I retract that...

If you could swing it....for $30 more I would get the compact 75gpd one
that is what I have and I have been very happy with it......I think you would be happier too

Agree a small unit just be patient. I have my reservations on some of those ASOV on some of these units. I prefer the ones built into the pressure vessel. At anytime you could/can enlarge the capability of your unit if you want. AirWaterIce makes a nice unit and a little over your budget, but reasonable.
To upgrade a smaller unit to a larger capacity you'd just need to replace the existing membrane to a larger one, and at the same time you would also need to replace the flow restrictor to match the new membrane.
