Top of my tank is not square either. Had to mock up a radius with a pc. of cardboard, transfer the pattern to the plastic screen framing and cut it out. Looks okay, when on the tank sits down on the little lip below the top edge of the tank. Looks kinda funky when it's off but no big deal.

yesterday at the LFS they were selling eggcrate for 20$ .. (black) which i was very down for.. but if figured OSH or any local hardware store would have it MUCHHH cheaper...

You will have, I think, a hard time finding black eggcrate locally because most for suspended ceiling grids it is white. To me the eggcrate option was one I thought about but discarded because eggcrate is a light diffuser and I figured there would be some light loss using it. The pond netting seemed like a better alternative, albeit a little more involved in making than the eggcrate. A lot of people use eggcrate though so I guess it boils down to what you want to do.

i looked around for the pond netting and wasnt very successful in finding it yesterday. I hope its not to big of a bitch to make. The wire cutting wont be the problem.. problem is the frame.
thats why i was thinking of going with the BLACK eggcrate... howm uch is regular white eggcrate?... for a sheet...
also at the LFS he had a sickkkkk ass sting ray. veryyy tinny.. he said "i have customers keeping these in 5 gal tanks".. he said get rid of all ur rocks and just leave a sand bed for it.. id love to make my nano 12 into a sting ray tank.. just 1 small one.. he said it was called a "pacific stingray".. it was tooo badass i wanted the little guy sooo bad. For some reason i feel hes blowing smoke up my ass, how can that beast stay that small and survive in a 12 gal? any1 have any info? ill upload a picture of him in a second.
edit: he said if you want your tank dedicated to the stingray.. add an eggrate and and just grow corals on the eggcrate and have the sting ray down bottom.. (which im VERYYYYY down for) just need to do my research and see what steps i would need to take care of this bad boy.. (i know my bubble will be bursted in no time as i know for a fact ic ant keep a damn sting ray in a 12gal NANO!)... heres the pic

The pond screen is nylon not wire.
Wasn't Steve Irwin killed in the "Pacific" by a "Stingray".
Do not trust that info from the LFS............................

Man oh man, that is crazy talk. Glad you were smart enough to not just take his word for it and bring it home with you. I probably would not listen to that guy/girl anymore.
Lol, a sting ray in a 5 gallon

i got into the office this morning at 6am and my first thermometer which is much closer to the surface of the tank (right side) was @ 76.6.. and now after my MH on for 4.5 hours..the temp of that one is at 78.8
my 2nd thermometer which is closer to the middle of the tank (left side) was @ 77.2 .. and now is @ 79.3
THERMOMETER 01:
76.6 > 78.8 ... 2.2 degree change in 4.5 hrs

THERMOMETER 02:
76.6 > 78.3 ... 2.3 degree change in 4.5 hrs

Try setting your heater to 78 degrees and do the same tracking to see what happens. My tank has the heater set there, the 150 Sunpod, open top, back chambers open and never goes over 81 degrees. Even in the summer. I have some good turbulence on the top of the water also from the return nozzle.
Oh yeah I also have the Bio Cube skimmer, two Korallia Nano's, and a Rio 6hf for the return pump.
Oh yeah again and the Azoo Galaxy light on the fuge chamber.

my heater is set to 75 degrees right now. I will be adding a Marina LED light for my fuge. (i wonder if i will need that now that i have the open top and sunpod) ?...
i have 1 korallia1 .. and a maxijet 1200 out back.. flow is pretty good.. checking at my thermometer now... its now @
thermometer 1: 79.2
thermometer 2: 79.7

These temps are after how much light period?
I think you are about to prove a point here, the sumpod may not heat up your water past a certain point because of the tank being open and the flow moving around the display and chambers causing some evaporative cooling.
The thing to deal with is the swing in temp. Setting the heater to 78 may in fact reduce the swing amount and not cause any overheating or the need for fans.
Just my experience with my tank setup.

The disk of the eastern Pacific round stingray (Urolophus halleri) increases in width on the average from 75 millimetres (three inches) at birth to 150 millimetres (six inches) when mature, when 2.6 years old. In the next five years it grows about 60 millimetres (about 2 3/8 inches) more toward its maximum recorded width of 25 centimetres (10 inches) in.
Got this off Encyclopedia Britanica, I suppose you could keep him in a small tank for a while until he reaches maturity, but would you rather have a large stingray in a beautiful tank or a stunted stingray in a nano... Irwin was killed by a Giant stingray, which grow several feet. If you had really wanted to do this you would need to determine the species for sure. Just my thought
