PMd! .. thanks man
hey the coral i have in my 12g right now.. are no where as near green as they were @ the LFS.. do you think its cuz of my PC lighting?..
i want to put them under my MH's but my tank is not cyceled.. theyl die in there no?.. I dont even know what they are.. they are green polyps i guess... no idea what kind.. They dont look like they are shriveling up and dying, but they just have no where as near green in them as they used 2 .. and some of them are a brownish tint with a bit of green. I am tempted to put them in the 24 under the MH's but the water params are not ready in that tank.. ill try 2 get a pic up of it soon.

They are Radioactive Dragon Eye Zoanthids or RDE's for short. Very easy to care for polyps and grow and spread like crazy. My advice is to keep them where they are. Once your 24 is cycled, then you can put them in. Just be careful how much light they get. When going from pc lighting to metal halides corals can go into shock(for a better term) basically just give them a few hours a day of halides and increase the time they are on by an hour every week or so.

If you are having evap. problems now having a fan will kill you. I'll bet you'll have to replace at least a half gallon a day with an open top and a fan. When I had a 12 nanocube with an open top that's about what I was replacing. If all you are planning to keep are zoas and rics ~80 on the high end is not that bad. Everyone seems to say 78-79 is perfect - 1 deg either way shouldn't kill any of the easier to keep corals. I would see if you can't set you heater to keep the water at 78ish at night and then see how hot the MH makes it during the day - if it doesn't get to 81 I wouldn't worry about it. JMHO

Whatever your tank gets to be at it's peak, I think you said around 81, is what you want to try to keep it at. 81 is fine, as you know, the fluctuation is what kills things. Glad to hear, you are seeing pods on the glass, that is certainly a good sign

im afraid of keeping it at 81. i want to be able to have cool ---- and not have to worry about it being to hot for some things...(i just raised the heat again on my heater).. lets see if ti can geti t to a steady 80.. and see how that works..
im also in the process of making my own top off ill draw a little diagram and post in a minute..

i need to figure out a way to find a valve that lets water come down outo f trhe tube but not come up (mixing with the r/o water) from the tank.. im not sure if they sell anything like that... any1 have any ideas?..
i think it MIGHT work if i can get somthing to stop the r/o water from mixing with the salt water in the tank/container..

you dont need that. As long as the bottle is air tight the water will stop being released when the tank water covers the opening. You would think the water would go into it but something about the density of the saltwater compared to the fresh prevents the salt from creeping into the water bottle. Ive seen several examples of this working and also one with food coloring to show that the water doesnt go back in.

dunno if that will get deleted but theres an example otherwise pm me your email and i can talk to you about other examples
