hey guys i just noticed in the instructions of the sunopd it says do NOT use it over an open surface. must be a coverd aquarium.. ?..
also i want to make some type of cover for my tank so my fishes dont jump out.. do you guys think if i use the light fixture things that it will melt?.. i have never use MH before but i am sure they get very hot.. any suggestions on covers i can make?.. (i will put holes in it so i can get a exchange) however i need to cover so fishies dont jump out..

eggcrate works nice. all light fixtures say that but if you noticed, the sunpod has a splash guard on it. i used the sunpod over open water and nothing ever happened. the sunpod is a reliable fixture. good thing you did not get a K2. (jbj clamp on)..eggcrate is the way to go!

I beg to differ. IMO, eggcrate cuts down on the amount of light that gets down into the tank, it is a light diffuser after all. Talk to spanko about his cover.

nice... lol isn't it truly nuts how far off hydrometers can be? I know I was shocked haha. Definitely a "couldn't happen to me" situation that made me gulp in panic afterward.
BTW this project looks promising.

Dang dude, i'm jealous... Nice setup! And I'm not sure if someone answered you, but if your older tank was healthy, then yea, use water and rock and bio balls from that one to 'seed' your new one.. Make things progress alot faster. Anyhow goodluck! And damnit i wish i could throw my aquapod 12g out a window and put everything into a 24g...

i have the same problem but my guess is bc of the splash guard for the MHs and how thats dirty which leads to reflections idk any other reason?

Point a powerhead up towards the surface of the water to break the film. It will help with gas exchange and keeping your ph up too

i wonder if you could fit a Y nozzle on your return, that way you could point one at the surface and another wherever. just a thought.
