Sad Days in Chicago

I've finally came out of my room to post the sadness that I, as do many other Chicagoians, feel in the aftermath of the Super Bowl.
I really am glad for Manning, he's a classy guy and deserves it unlike Tammie Brady... while I would have rather had Manning win it next year.
Grossman lost this game. I hear alot that the Bears defense had there part. Granted they did miss alot of tackles, but the bottomline they held Indy to 22 points (7 was the Grossman INT) dispit spending 38 minutes on field. I feel bad for Grossman, I really want him to do well but he had his chance. Although its first full year starter and he's 1 or 2 wins away from being the winningest QB in Bears history, he is done here after the 07 season.

I'm a packers fan... I do feel bad for the bears though.. I think with a different QB things could have been different. With that being said and knowing that Favre will be back I now find myself praying for grossman to come back for the bears..
Sorry, couldn't resist.

not true... both the Bills and the Vikings dont have a Championship... the Braves did choke a couple away and have faultered several years in a row in the playoffs... but they (up til last year) had won their division 11 years in a row and made the playoffs 14 in a row... but they do have a Title...

seriously. done? think about it, this kid is young. His first FULL season he took the bears to the superbowl. Not single-handedly, but he was good enough to not lose EVERY game. So i'm sorry, people bash this kid but they don't realize, he's just a baby when it comes to football. Give him a year or two more with a good QB coach and I think the Bears will be rock solid. The offense as good as it's been has been the shakiest part of the bears this season. The defense has had it's moments as well. Bottom line, they made it to the superbowl, lost, but they got there unlike 94% of the other teams in the NFL.

and p.s. this was in no way meant to be a flame or anything, just a few thoughts.

Other players have done better than Grossman after riding the bench a couple years or so. A prime example would be Romo and Rivers. Both sat on the bench and played more consistent then Grossman. He had the oppurtunity to sit and learn for two yers while injured.
He'll never amount to much...makes poor decisions and is lost. If the Bears D does not set him up on the short field (like they did against the Saints) he is lost. And if the running game is shut down.....you are done.
Bears play in the weak nfc north...so he had a pretty easy go of it this year. As those teams improve and if the bears stay with Grossman....they will slide back to the pack.

That's a pretty rough assessment Scubadoo... Romo choked BIG time in the play offs after only a half a season starting time... Rivers did pretty good though, and was mostly beat by coaching. You gotta admit, Grossman beat some pretty good adversity, but in the ultimate game the Bears were beat by better coaching, better offence, and sorry to say, better defence. Now believe you me, I would have loved to see the Bears beat the colts, but last Sunday wasn't the day...

Oh, and by the way GMIDD... sorry about your cities woes. I for one can feel your pain, I live in Michigan, and have to be associated with the Lions. I'm sure Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots are proud of the colts, and Bears.

It appears to me adversity has beaten Grossman. he is young so who knows. Romo actually played in 11 games...more than half a season. I am by no means a ROmo fan..but he does have a more consistent game at QB than Grossman.
I was simply pointing out other QB;s played better in their first year after sitting for a few.
My assessment of Grossman is too many bad decisions too many times in too many games. All QB's and players have bad games and make poor decisions. However, when a pattern develops it is cause for concern. Also, when it appears to be staying the same...or getting worse...that is a bad sign. Finally, when those bad decisions hand tie your play calling from the sidelines...you are in trouble. .

That Bears quarterback... they need to make an example out of him! Give him pompoms and make him a cheerleader.

Problably a good call and annalasis... coming from a Saint's fan. Didn't the Bears beat the Saints about 3 weeks ago? (Can we just say pi$$ed off?) I was just saying, I think the kid did pretty well with the team as a whole over the year, and 2nd place is always better than 3rd or 4th... but in all reality... it's still the first loser.

I think so too TX Reef, any rookie QB, or first year QB for the team that can guide a team over 50% has to be worth looking at for the next year! IMHO

Mid-season? How about a big doughnut-hole for four in the Super Bowl? True, that was 30 years ago, the last time when they got buzzsawed by Madden's Raiders.
The problem with Grossman in the Super Bowl was the role he played on the offense. Much like Trent Dilfer when the Ravens won, his job was to play steady, get a few points out of the offense, and most importantly, don't screw up . . . let the defense and special teams win the game. If the situation came down to him having to win the game (Which it did), then I don't think anybody could honestly believe he would have been capable of doing so.
Clearly, Grossman was asked to do what he couldn't do . . . bring the team back in a big game.
It certainly didn't help that the once-vaunted Bears defense went into hibernation . . . get it? Hibernation . . . Bears . . . hibernating . . . geez this is a tough room! The defensive struggles seemed amplified by the coaching staff's unwillingness or inability to adjust to what the Colts were doing. Ironically, many prophesized that Manning would throw with impunity against the young and inexperienced Chicago secondary . . . and that ended up being probably the most effect element of the defense.

As for someone else's comment earlier regarding the Cubs... I'm a White Sox fan

Trust me I really like Grossman and would like to see him do well... even went out and got a #8 jersey. Chicago's past QB woos have made this a hard city to be a QB in and regardless of the city thats the position of a QB you are continually under the spotlight. Grossman has his moments but you can just see this kid get rattled. On few occassion he'll come through but with the game on the line he's on the other side of the spectrum then Manning. Granted with Chicago's style of offense you not going to see big numbers from the QB but you gotta convert those 3 and 5's. Grossman has one more year on his contract, as do Grease and Orton (he lead the Bears to the Playoffs last year) so Grossman has another shot but he'll be looking over his shoulder. Bears are already the Vegas favorite in the NFC only behind the Chargers and the Colts.
