Hello All,
I tested my levels again today. 7th day of cycle...
and my Salinity levels are verry high,
Salinity 1.029
Water Temp 73Deg
Ph 8.2
No2 0
No3 0
Amonia 0.25
Alk normal
What is the best way to drop the salinity level?
Thanks,
Milt
I come up with a Salinity of about 39.6ppt given the temp and Specific Gravity you listed.
I agree 100% with the posters above me but what are you using to test your Specific Gravity? I only ask because the Swing-Arm style hydrometer can be very inaccurate. If you're using a floating hydrometer it's much more accurate. The best solution is to skip the specific gravity all together and test the Salinity directly using a Refractometer.
Thanks for the information, Yes I am using a swing arm device. I removed a gallon of SW and replaced it with FW. the sallinity dropped to 1.026. will wait a couple of hours and remeasure. I'll repeat if necessary. My salinity levels started around 1.025 and went up from there. From what I have gathered I want to be close to 1.021.
I'm still new to this, this board and everyones support is greatly appreciated.
Thank You all!
Milt
You should convert the specific gravity reading to Salinity. Salinity is what really matters. 35 - 36 ppt is the desired range regardless of what temp you choose.
Thanks for all your help. I have dropped the levels to 1.024, I will give it a day or two and see if I can get it to 1.021.
I appreciate all of the advice.

Why so low? I wouldnt go any lower then 1.023 especially if you have inverts.
