salinity testing...so frustrating!

I have a coralife deep six hydrometer and I swear, i can never get the reading twice with this thing. Is this just a bad salinity tester or is there a particular way to hold it when you test the salinity? I'm making sure there is no bubbles and the water is level at the top when I bring it out of the water. I get anywhere from 1.023 to the very top(1.032) on a regular basis. HELP!

I have the same one but mine works fine. Yours might be faulty.

Mine dosent even go up to 1.032
Just set it down and read it after waiting a few minutes.

i bought the deep six one as my first hydrometer, and i also couldnt get a good reading. i got alot bubbles, and when i tapped it like the instructions said too, they would not move off the needle. i now use the marine labs instant ocean hydrometer and love it...

Yep I second that !!!!! Hydrometers are the most accurate, but would be ok if you could check it against a refractometer......

Swing arm hydrometers are worthless. You would be better off tasting your water to check for salinity. Throw it away. They are so inaccurate that they are dangerous, IMO. Get a refractometer or, at least a good glass hydrometer.

I've seen 6 of these, brand spanken new dipped into the same tank. They all had different readings..Like Beth said
