I love salsa but have never heard of anyone getting sick from it. I like cilantro too but you have to be careful with it. It only takes a little or else the cilantro taste will become overwhelming. I use it when I make tortilla soup.

I grow habaneros in the garden, I have about 20 little babies now. Try them on the grill next time you do steaks. After they are charred, pull off the skin, deseed and mash the flesh into a paste and spread over the steak....oh my....

What store bought brands do you like? I like pace but not the standard mild and medium ones but rather the flavored ones. I like to mix either the pico de gallo or black bean and roasted corn salsa with the salsa verde.

actually the store brand in town HEB makes a killer green tomatillo salsa. And I prefer a chipotle based chile salsa. I'm not a big fan of the chunky styles.

I made a great pineapple salsa on July 4th.
Cut pineapple into rounds and grill it along with a red pepper, a green pepper and 2 jalepenos. Once its all grilled and you've removed the skins from the pepper give it all a good chop along with some raw red onion and cliantro.
Substitue habaneros for the jalapenos if you want more heat.

I get my mexican neighbor to make me salsa. (and tortillas) But she goes down to the valley to get her chiles. Roasts them, smooshes them, then heats up a sause pan pours some oil in. Puts the chile in, then adds some cilatro, tomatillo, and a few things she won't tell me. But I'd assume some salt, a little garlic. And then cooks it down. Real Chile doesn't have tomatos in it.

I made tequila salsa once. Was really good the 2nd day. I don't remember the exact formula but tomatos, green onions, cilantro and Habinaros. Fresh stuff, not cooked. If you want really hot sauce there some stuff called Valencia that will singe the hair off your legs. Had some wings made with that stuff years ago, KILLER.
