I dont like kent anything. Read the containers. Some salt has more calcium while others have more... all in all its the same.

Personal choice I think....Everyone raved about Oceanic salt......it dissolves nice, but didn't make my tank look any better then everyone started having problems with it, and it wasn't all cracked up to what people led to believe......Coralife I actually "hate" which is a bad word......I like Seachem, but hard to dissolve IMO.....Instant Ocean is ok, Reef Crystals I actually like alittle better, but got bit by the Tropic Marin Pro and have been quite pleased, but don't really do any major study on the salts just try and see how the tank reacts......levels stay within check and I'm happy and everything is happy.

I like Instant Ocean.
I did buy some of the crap they sell at Deathco and my PH started going haywire.
To use up the Deathco crap, I mixed it with IO at about 2 to 1 and managed to use the crap up.
NEVER AGAIN.... no matter what kind of deal it is will I go to cheaper salt from the major chains.

I like instant ocean but I now just buy my water at my local store already mixed. To me its worth paying $4.00/5 gallons already mixed, plus they use a filtration system to remove all the tap water impurities all I have to add is buffer.

Why entrust your water quality to anyone?????? How do you know their maintaining their RO/DI unit like it should be??? Have you actually seen their unit.....Do you know what the TDS reading is going into the unit and what it is coming out of the unit as well??????? I wouldn't trust anyone with my water quality.........To much money invested.........Can I hold your wallet, checkbook and credit card this weekend?

yeah i do the same cept i pay 50 cents a gallon of premixed all prepared with ph n everything , and 39 cents a gal for ro/di. All i do is add it. hey id trust the lfs with making their water since they have over 1000's of $ worth of stock they sure wouldnt want to mess up. Although i always look at their stock to see if they have sick, unhealthy fish n corals. if they do, then id ditch the place and not buy water from them. To be sure , test the water u bought from them just for safety. it depends on the lfs i guess. alot of great places in socal.
i like to use table salt......

According to a recent study unveiled at MACNA this week; Red Sea & Reef Crystals are sort of tied for best and Instant Ocean was the worst out of the 10 tested.

It should be noted, though, that the results have not been analyzed completely yet...basically they looked at certain tanks and some look better than others at this point, but the official verdict is out.
If you google "borneman lowe MARSH salt study" you should find the first two articles. This study was sponsored by the local Houston reef club, which also just sponsored MACNA.
Stay tuned
this is a long awaited study!

That is because they haven't ranked them. The study finished literally I think a day before they presented it at MACNA. It will take them time to actually analyze everything and "rank" so to speak. So I would hold off on drastic changes until that time comes...because people have jumped the gun on some past studies and probably regretted it. I imagine that it will make more waves when actually published.

Then why is everyone saying that these tests show that reefcrystals and Red sea is the best...? I guess I got to reread it because I can't find that part.
And as for jumping the gun..... .....I just switched to TropicMarin Pro......I hope I made a good choice.

I believe the study authors made some statement about how the various tanks **LOOKED** but not necessarily commenting on specific data or analysis. And that can be very relative.
