Sure, lots of them will breed. Most of the fry are difficult to impossible to raise but it can be done. Banggai are probably the easiest followed by Clowns, Chromis, Engineer Gobies, and Dominoe Damsels.

Epaulette and bamboo sharks will breed in captivity. Bang, any reason you left jawfish off your list? I've seen males brooding eggs, but are the fry hard to rear? Bo

I've seen Blue-spot Jawfish fry but I've yet to see a tank bred adult Jawfish. That's the only reason.
I left out the sharks... Bluespot Rays are fairly easy as well as many of the Seahorses and Pipefish.

it all depends what you consider captivity.
Frank Beanch has reported the breeding of a few centrypyge angels. the key to success where tiny copepod larve for first foods. Al theil reported back in that day (late 80"s) getting clown triggers to spawn. this required a huge 20ft X20 ft tank w/ nothing but 3 females and one male clown trigger. he never got the eggs to hatch.
As for agressive fishes a few of the small lionfish has spwned adn bred in captivity, and a fe of the smaller morays as well. However these are very rare events.
Even thou Bang guy reported that these fish can be donwe, its represents prolly less than0.1% of the fish brough ino the hobby.
Clownfish are prolly the most common captive bred fish, followed by dottybacks (psuedochromis)

Hi Dr. Marini!!!!!!!! Thank you for chiming in. It's always good to hear from you.
As far as 0.1% of the fish in the hobby, that's a really sad truth. I'm afraid it'll stay that way until either hobbiests stop expecting to pay LESS for tank bred animals or the natural reefs become depleted. Either way people are going to have to pay more, I hope they start choosing the first option.
Oh... speaking of breeding fish... I'm writing up a new technique for Banggai that might get you excited. It's a little off the wall but it has worked both times I experemented with it. ;) I'll keep you posted. e-mail me if you're interested... guynwarsaw@yahoo.com
