Well I have one in the 225G, spends most of its time under the sand.....once a week I stick a small piece of meaty food (like scallop) in the sand for it
IMO they need a large tank with a lot of sand and a mature sand bed....
I'm going to bed within 5 minutes....LOL..

A 29gal and 65gal weren't enough for sand sifters on separate ocassions.... They really don't eat larger meaty foods, like a serpent/brittle. Almost all die. :-(

I had one for 3-4 years on my 72g and it was awesome!
$20 is bit too much... it's $5 on sale in So.Fl..

Starfish just die randomly and have to keep an eye on them.
Mine just ate all the fish crap on the sand and shifted very well. It will even climb the glass walls to eat algae from there.

I have had mine for about 5 months now and even after losing all his arms from a pesky crab that is long gone he is fine. I find them to be very hardy IMO. He is in a 75 with half of it covered in rock. So he doesnt have as much room as I would like but I have a 150 going up now. If he is small a 20 should be ok for a while as they are slow growers, but $20 is very expensive. My lfs has them for $5. It honestly comes down to the fact that if you like him and like the price than expensive isnt in your vocab
Good luck with him!

I have had mine since August 2010...it has doubled in size, and is in my 225G so I think it has PLENTY of food
I will say I got one in the very beginning of my SW tank keeping and it didn't last a month....it dissolved....NOW I KNOW due to starvation
if you have had one for 4 years in a 29G kudos to you...and YAYYY for the star
