Nudi's are all predators. They are very specific on their diet. If you don't have the exact animal they feed on then they will quickly starve.

I don't plan on getting one right now but what is the food that they feed on? I have a refugium in my sights and want to upgrade tanks and in the process will start on the reef. What should I look to get to host things like a mandarin(sp) & nudibranches?

Your question is too vague. Each species of Nudibranch will eat a different animal.
For example;
Cerberilla sp. eat a specific species of burrowing Anemone.
Chelidonura sp. eat a specific species of flatworm.
Nembrotha sp.
eat a specific species of Tunicate.
etc.
