You will need to know that as a chemist or physicist. How else are you going to figure out what you enjoy, and what you want to be? These are skills that are important in the world. While YOU may not find it important or interesting, thank goodness there are others who do...or there would not be medications, and nearly all of the products we enjoy every day.

Now that I'm old, I look back at school and I remember thinking it was all useless. Even as my son goes through the grades, I knew in the back of my mind that he'll never use this stuff again.
Then, I think it was just last year that it hit me. School is practice. Your not supposed to memorize all that you learn, but you are supposed to be honing your ability to study. They cover a million different topics so hopefully one of them will stand out as your niche.
You hafta "learn how to study" you hafta practice it, cause your gonna go to college for that niche high school helped you find, and in college, hopefully there will be less useless info.
there will always be some, but once you get your degree it tells potential employers, that your dedicated, willing to learn, a hard worker, etc...
It's all part of a greater plan.

School should teach you how to think, how to apply yourself, how to study, etc. Memorizing electron valences and what tribe chunked a

[hr]
at which conquistador teaches you these things.

As opiura said, no one will ever use everything you are exposed to in school, but by being exposed to a lot of different subjects and ideas, it helps you decide what you are interested in doing for a living. My son is going through that right now. He graduated from HS this year and not sure what he wants to do. He graduated with high honors but currently has no desire to go to college. He is still young and will figure it out. He is already getting a taste of what it's like to have to work for a living and he is working very hard for very little right now.
I have an Engineering degree so my degree was heavy in Math and Science. Calc 1, 2 and 3, Chemistry 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Statics, Thermodynamics and the list goes on and on. It's funny but I couldn't sit down and do this out of my head now to save my life. It's been too long and I don't use it in my everyday work and never will. I'm a Technical Architect and I design Information Technology Solutions for a 10 billion dollar company. When they need to turn out a new solution for our customers, I architect the solution to include software used, servers, operating systems, databases, web servers, security, network layout, DMZs, WAN connection to other sites, protocols and everything that will be needed end to end to meet the business requirements. I diagram it out, document it, sign off on it and hand it off for someone to build and put it out there.
My main point is I spent 5 years in Engineering school learning tons of information that I have never used, but needed to get that piece of paper that allows me to do what I do today. It's the same for highschool. It's just something you have to accept as necessary. It's not always fun but man is it so worth it when you get through it all.

I was the same way in high school... Couldn't care less about class... All I cared about was my car (since I wasn't into fish yet).
Junior and senior year is where you should pick yourself up.. I did that, and I got into a pretty good school, so I'm happy
(Engineering sucks, though
)

ah, to be back in school!! graduated college, wow, 3 years ago, and i'd give anything to go back!! love my job and love the paychecks but things are just so much easier when you're in school! and while what you're learning may seem pointless and unrelated to life, you never know where you'll be 10, 20, 30 yrs down the road! plus, if you suck it up and just do it, get yourself a good job, it pays off so much more than the moaning and groaning about why do i need to learn this stuf! not to mention how much FUN school is - particularly college. while the education part isn't that great you learn a lot about people, yourself and how to manage your life. didn't realize that and if i had the opportunity i'd do it all over again! looking to go back for my masters soon actually since my company will pay for it...

I said the same thing about science. Even went to college and graduated. Physical Education teacher.....that doesn't have a teaching job because physical education is the most overpopulated content area. So i got a job with a solar company, paying way more than i could ever make as a teacher.....and I wish I remembered how many electrons an atom has! Because I use science every day.

It's just that it seems useless. These things will be revelant in college. Well some of them will. It's just annoying to hear people complain about school. It's the only thing that will firther you in life, unless you are incredibly lucky. HS and college were a blast for me. you should enjoy them, because life only gets more crazy after that.
