This is what my 5 year old grand daughter needs for Kindergarten....My oldest daughter has 3 kids...one is going into 1st grade, the Kingergartner, and a pre-schooler all with similar lists....My daughter has NO JOB...So who do you think is buying this stuff

P.S. Don't say you wouldn't do it either.....cause I am sure you would not let your grand kids go w/o

1 pkg dry erase markers
1 Clear back pack
1 pair student scissors
8 pkgs 24 count crayons
2 pkgs #2 pencils (plain yellow)
2 pink erasers
8 large glue sticks
1 pkg magic markers - washable
2 3 packs kleenex
2 double rolls paper towels
1 pkg quart size zip lock baggies
and they require a $5 activity fee

Well my 6 year old has had lists like this since she started pre-school
It just seems like it grows more each year...I'm waiting for them to add toilet paper

I think with all the school cuts, this is how they try to save money...IDK anymore, but it's getting ridiculous.

This is the same list my kids had when they went to Kindergarten, and that was 18 years ago for my oldest. I commend you for helping your daughter. In San Antonio, we have several organization that have 'School Supply' drives and get donations from around town to supply these necessities to the underprivileged and low income families in the city. Clear backpack? Go to some of your inner-city schools, and they have metal detectors installed in the elementary schools these days.

I assume they are in public school. Mine are in private so we don't have to buy anything but we do pay a hefty tuition!!!!

you'd think with the 20k plus they get a year in tuition for per pupal they could cover those materials...

Soon they will put teachers on the list since the states are having such a hard time keeping them employed.

Half the school districts in Texas are WAY over budget. I can't count the number of teachers I know that have to pull money out of their own pockets every year just so they can have photocopies of work and homework assignments, extra supplies for their classrooms, and even lunch money for some of the kids.
I used to be on the School Review Board at my daughters elementary school when she was attending it. One of my jobs was to approve the various budgets that the school had, and how to determine where to disperse the various funds they received from the district and the State. We'd have teachers come to the meeting asking for $300 to pay for Math Learning Blocks, or $500 to buy some flash cards for learning simple sentences. Half the time we had to deny their requests. I remember one program a teacher was trying to implement that involved some of the disabled kids. All she wanted was $150 for this computer learning program to help with their studies. The principle said the money wasn't available because they already exceeded the budget to replace defective chairs in the cafeteria. After the meeting, I handed the teacher the $150, and told her to keep it to herself how she got the software.

Yeah...we have SOME...good teachers that pull from their own pockets....I make it a point to visit all my grand kids classes frequently (As I did with my own)....The teachers know that I am willing to help (as much as I can) w/o advertising that fact (if you know what I mean)
There is nothing worse then seeing a child go w/o...and I won't do it. It is not the child's fault that mom or dad spent the money on booze/drugs/gambling...I HATE THIS SO MUCH

My first ex wife's kid had a list about like that in Kaliforniya about 20 years ago, I don't think there was Kleenex. When I was a kid we had to supply our own crayons. I only remember it cause a friend of the family ran a thrift store and someone had donated a case of the deluxe crayons with all the colors and she gave us a couple boxes, I was the envy of the 2nd grade :)

The budget has been cut to schools, now public schools even have a fee to attend school out here $75.00 (my daugher has 5 children).. in my day, Public school was free. My Grand kids even have to bring a box of tissues for their class to share, teacher said if all the kids bring a box they have enough for the year of little noses needs.
I hear you Meowzer...I won't let them go without either

OH don't get me started on THE lists!!! paper towels, kleenex, clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, dry eraser. JUST the art teacher alone wants in the Crayola markers.....fine tip bold, fine tip basic, reg tip bold color and reg tip basic color, colored pencils AND crayons!!!. Plus other stuff that drives me nuts. Why does a kid need 32 markers???

Don't get me wrong we get nickle and dimed all year too. We just don't have to buy so much off a list before school starts.
