seeding sponge filter

I bought a sponge filter for my quarantine tank, and I threw it into the 55g display tank to seed it. How do I know when the sponge filter has seeded enough?

It really needs water flowing through it to seed it properly. Otherwise it could seed with anaerobic bacteria which will be useless for what you're looking for. Stick it on the bottom of a powerhead so water flows through it. There's no way to look at it to see if it's seeded but it should be good to go after 3 or 4 days.

Just to add to what bang said, in 4 days put the sponge in your QT. ghost feed a very small portion of food. Test in a day you should see nitrates. If you do you should be good to go
