seizure?

One of my clowns looks like it is having a seizure. It is swimming around and every once in a while it has a violent shake. All the other fish seem OK. Any ideas?

Actually yes, and I just saw the other one do the same thing. They seem to be hanging out in front of a little cove in one of my rocks.

Well I think you need to get the "Do Not Disturb" sign ready

I disagree that it is a mating dance. Alot of fish do this as a sign of aggresion or dominance. It might get associated with clowns mating because one is establishing dominance over the other. but you will also notice they will do this toward any other fish that gets in there "turf". My observation has been that they will do this to other clowns but it seems to subside after they pair up weather they actually mate or not.

I've had these 2 for about 2 months and they are always together. I mainly wanted to check to make sure there wasn't something wrong with them.

The clown dance is a bit special though.
First the female (female to be) will express her dominance by charging. As she charges the male he has a seizure (as you put it lol). This sign from the male is submission. He is saying, "Oh all powerful female don't harm me I'll do as you say." Then the female will respond with a sort of wiggle that I like to call, "doing the funky tuna." In any case it is an interesting ritual and something you shouldn't worry about. In addition, excellent question

I actually just asked this exact same question last week. I was told it was a 'submissive' thing. Like everyone else said...letting the female know she's the boss.

They are basically a mated pair.. so if you didnt buy them mated then you got a good deal... you might see eggs once she is matured

I always hated this assumption. Clownfish can pair up without mating. LFS have a bad tendancy of selling pairs as mated and charging way too much. They are not mated untill they lay eggs. In captivety two clownfish can pair up and never mate. Getting clownfish to pair is actually very simple, getting them to mate is a different story. They will do the vibrating toward eachother to establish dominance even if they don't mate. This is why I stated earlier that I disagree that its a mating dance. Its more of a dominance thing that also happens when they mate if that make sense.
