I don't get the idea behind the DSB, I had a Plenum system and worked great for 3 yrs. til I got rid of system. I now have 1" sand and everything is great. I missed about the last 3 years of research, being out of hobby, just recently got back into it. What did I miss. What about the DSB, what benifits, what drawbacks????? :D  :D

from what I understand you need at least 3-4" base for it to work when I get mine going ill post my results

small timer a sand bed is really worth it to me. It keeps nitrates really low because it provides so much surface area for bacteria to colonize on to denitrify your amonnia to nitrite to nitrate its kinda long to explain this but it has worked for me

Listen to the advisors on this one. There are numerous benefits. Just make certain that it is deep enough. I like it between 4-5 inches deep. Never again will I vacuum substrate!!!!!!!!
