supermanvx, hopefully I'll have the liner in this weekend. With my 60gpd ro/di filter it may take a while to actually fill it.
After the lining is in I have some more finish work and painting to do on the outside.

Yeah, how are you planning to fill it?? Are you mixing your own at home with your ro filter? Man! Took a lot of time just to mix and refill a 25% water change with my 90.

I'll mix my own saltwater. It will take awhile, but the sharks are only about a foot long so I have time

I assume your using the formula that I've seen online - on this & other forums.
By the way - about how much per gallon does it cost to make it?

I'm not aware of a formula that you refer to krj-1168. I just got 7 buckets of salt and will go from there. I had a bunch of plumbing parts that were going to show up today, but the shipper lost the box. So no new pictures yet. As for cost per gallon I try not to think of depressing things like that. The budget is already to tight due to the fact that my wife wants it pretty
I have rethought the return pump, but I have to sell the one I have before I can get the one I need. If anyone's interest it's in the classifieds. It's a pan world 200ps.

There is a formula for making your own sea salt - instead of by the pre-made stuff.
Here's the salt formula from mattiej
Salt Mix Recipe
25 gallon Mix
NaCl 2350 g
MgCl 500 g
MgSO4 400 g
CaCl2 110 g
Kcl 66 g
NaHCO3 20 g
SrCl2 2 g
Kent Marine Essential Elements 1 capful
Sources:
NaCl solar salt, water softener salt
MgCl2 magnesium chloride ice melter at most Home Depots
MgSO4 Epsoms salt at any grocery or drug store
CaCl2 another ice melter
KCl solar salt that is called pipe safe again at Home Depot
NaHCO3 baking soda
SrCl2 Kent Marine Turbo Strontium
The Kent Marine Essential is just to round out the mix and can be substituted with any full spectrum additive
At the request of some here is my version of the recipe I use for all my FO and mixed tanks. Just dissolve the above amounts in 25 gallons of RO water and aerate for atleast 24 hours. The resultant specific gravity will be about 1.023-1.024 with a pH of about 8.1. You can always up the sodium bicarb and get slightly higher pH and alkilinity
From my basic understanding about it - you would save about 50% on the cost of salt.

Also, check if your local fish store has bags of salt that they use. They can get them for store use, but they usually don't sell them to the public. I buy 150gal bags of Oceanic from my LFS for around $25. I just open them and pour it in my empty big blue containers. I save alot that way.

Titan that hurts
My wife gave up her space in the basement for this project, so I guess she gets to decorate. Hell I'd be done by now if I didn't have to make the room look pretty :notsure:
