Say AC???? couldn't you order the play sand???? I know it would cost because of delivery, but would it at least be cheaper than buying all live sand????? I like the purple by the way, my second favorite color after sky blue.

They haven't been to cooperative on ordering sand here. I'm not sure why. I've already have about 300 pounds of sand and I'll seed it with some from other tanks as well. I may look into ordering again, maybe I just got someone who didn't want to deal with it.

Just give them the old line "well ________(fill in blank with competetor) said they could order some sand for $______, Can you help me save some money??? I need _______ more lbs of sand for my project.
This works even better if you batt your eyes and look cute.

A man might get kicked out of a store for batting his eyelashes...... :hilarious

Yeah that's true....... I do most of the mechanical stuff around our house. It drives me nuts when I go to home depot. Men instant see a woman and think she doesn't know a thing so I'll use baby talk so she doesn't get confused. I love their blank stare when I ask them for some specific high tech galvanize vise grip, or something like that. sigh.....allthough the eyelash batting does come in handy.

I happily married with 440GL of saltwater stirring in my house, no issues what so ever; just keep big shiny stones on their fingers. By doing so, the door is wide open for this sick hobby

AC- It is nice to see you going along with a shark pond. I will be following this thread, as I'm looking at doing one soon myself. Best wishes to you with the construction. I haven't talked to NOVICE in a while have you?

Tony D,
I haven't seen that name in a long time. I hope to see what you come up with when you do your pond. What are you going to keep in it? I haven't talked to novice. As far as I know he still has his black tip. I haven't been frequenting this forum that much until the pond. I've been working on reef stuff most recently. This forum is much kinder to the shark keeper so I post here when it comes to the sharks. I'm basically down to putting on the finishing rail around the top of the pond, then it's the filtration. Now for ideas. I need to have something inexpensive to put around the pond to keep the smoothhounds from jumping out. I was thinking of a net that I could take down in the front for feeding or viewing. I would love to hear some ideas. The pond is surrounded on 3 sides with walls, but there is gaps between the walls and the pond that a small shark could end up in. So here's everyones chance to give me their two cents :help: Stay in touch Tony, good to hear from the master.

Here some pics of my old pond since your doing the same pond structure . Those are 4by4s and I used 7inch lag screws and i had bowing. Best of luck also on my new pond I cover it with a thin netting i got from a pond store and works and looks well.

I think I was over thinking the net idea. Yours is very simple, and in my book simple is good. You are making me nervious about the bowing. At this point I can only hope for the best. I still wouldn't mind hearing more suggestions on keeping the sharks in the pond.
Thanks Sharkguy

Sharkguy,
How close together were your 4X4's? Do you have any pictures of the filtration you used and a description of the filtration?
Thanks
Rich

It was 8ft in length and there was 5 4by 4s so about 2 feet space inbetween. I'll get some photos of my filters in another post.

Here some pics of my filters and he netting. On the filters, I plumb it with 4 intakes going to that plastic sump, 15o gallons i think. Then I have a container in the sump which is for the bioball filter. A pump flow into the garbage can but you need something to put on the top so the water is flowing to all the balls. Then I have my protein skimmer in the sump and my uv is on the side of the pond. Using magdrive 3600 pumps.
