Because of a certain singer whose name is similar and who tends to go out in public improperly dressed and get her photo taken and posted here by the spam bots.

both of these are on the up rise in the uk the is a mass petition to try to calm down trawling and theres a petition in my town just before xamas to stop taking excessive ammounts of LR.
and at our rate of damge to sea beds and homes of fish we wont have anything left.
in uk we are using boats to give new homes for fish we are taking boats out to sea annd blowing them up so fish can make homes out of them.
why.
cos its getting bad.
same will be for all over the world too.
so yes it is a true statement.......
The sea levels have risen and fallen for millions of years. I understand the dangers of over harvesting and over fishing, but come on; You can't compare the "damage" done by man and the damage done by an Ice Age or two dropping or raising the sea level a hundred feet...
As I pointed out, live rock is a renewable resource. Research how the government of Fiji is planting and harvesting rock currently.
IF done properly, live rock can absolutely be sustainably harvested.

Pee into your tank.
A few drops a day should be all that is needed.
Bang, there have been people actually suggesting that! I know that pee is sterile, but it certainly is not "pure". You all can avoid torturing damsels and using shrimp by using live rock. You will buy some, and many will buy a whole lot of it, anyway. It will cycle your tank in the most healthy fashion.

It is sterile, but not pure??
Not pure how?? I mean what could possibly be in it that is a danger to our future tanks??
On a side note... You've actually seen that suggested??!!

How is it pure? It is the waste of a humans nasty intake. Goodness knows what is in it. It is sterile of outside contaminants, but it is the liquid contaminates of the body. It is a form of ammonia, but is not the same as the ammonia generated from fish waste, or a raw shrimp. Would you defecate in your tank to give your shrimp some detritus to feed on? I know that is gross, but it is the same comparison.
Yes, but you could tell that they, there were more than one, just "heard" it somewhere.

Well Sep, I guess your right again... And Bang, you should know better!! Pee has COPPER in it. (LOL)
Here is a list of all substances contained in urine:
Non-organic substances in the urine: bicarbonate, chloride, phosphorus, sulphur, bromide, fluoride, iodide, rhodanide, potassium, natron, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, cobalt, selenium, arsenium, lead, mercury.

Yikes!! I guess if you drink municipal tap
It isn't just that though. Think about what the average person puts into their body. The body keeps what it needs, the rest is waste! I don't want that in my tank.

Well, had you told me this morning that my thread would have gotten 50 replies, and that number 48 was going to be a Wikipedia link to the non-organic ingredients of human urine...
What did people do before the internet?
Seriously

I dont care about the damsel being "hurt" I just hate damsels cause they are so mean to other fish so thats why I dont cycle with them

Studies are done in many different ways. That does not even begin to describe what else can be in urine. Think about the many people on here. Who's liver is functioning properly, or anything else? You don't know who does what. Even if the liver is functioning properly, do NOT pee in your tank! This seems so silly, but others have given advice about it. I am not talking about Bang either.

Thanks for the link Tizzo, I now feel completely alright with things... or nauseous, I forget which one

Hey Clemson, I am sorry if this thread went in a direction that you were not thinking of. I looked at that thread. It wasn't what I was expecting. It was a nice "poop" thread, but not what I was expecting. I wouldn't want more than that thread.

Well not for any of the argument you have put forward but my take has always been to either cycle with the live rock or if you must add something add some flake or frozen food.
Anything you use though has been alive once, so your point is mostly lost. I for one would not condone the abuse of a live animal left to inhale and drink potentially life threatening soup. If you get right down to it clean base rock like tufa and dry sand cycled with urine or ammonia will serve to start a tank.
People are going to do what they will anyway so our task as members is to put out all of the alternatives based on our knowledge and I guess moral judgments.
uirine... as in me taking a piss in my tank? no thanks, maybe my neighbors, but not mine.

If I drink R/O DI water, will it still have copper?

It's been a while since I was in college Sep, but I think Ammonia=Ammonia. Urine contains Ammonia, as does fish waste.
