Sick Damsels

OK...I got up this morning and my 2 killer damsels did not look very good....white on eyes and some speckles

They are in a 10G after removing them from my 225G after the re-aquascape.
I did a 1G w/c yesterday, they have a K1, and power filter in the tank. I just got home and took some pics, but this morning I took out the carbon, and dosed with some Ich Attack (hey I had it..LOL) Now that I am home, I can run some tests...AND NO....I did not poison them

here are some pics in the meantime

I say flush em. lol
sorry
After being attacked by these guys numerous times I have thought about that
OKAY....I take back what I said earlier...maybe I did poison them....ammonia and trites are high
....I just added some amquel plus and I am preparing a 6G water change
What would be the quickest that you would do this w/c tonight?
I think this 10G is too small for these 2 fish:( Should I put the carbon back in????

Damsels are fairly hardy, I would say you could do the 6g w/c as soon as the salt dissolves and temp is within a few degrees!
When I need a w/c quick, and don't have sw ready I will keep going back and mixing it with my hand. Seems to dissolve the water faster then a ph.
Not much of an answer, sorry!
Hard to tell from pic. Are the white spots ich?

I hope not....cause that would mean it is in my DT

and I have NEVER seen any signs of it in the 225G.....OMG I'd die....
I have seen pics and pics of ich, but never in real life....

I don't think it would be on the eyes, but not sure.

Maybe Beth will be on soon!

I don't think it would hurt. Did you do the w/c already?

That certainly does look like ich on the damsels. If you have had them for awhile then ich is likely in your display. You wouldn't notice it until a fish becomes stressed for whatever reason. Your tank is a good size, and assuming it isn't over populated, the fish can live with ich and it goes unnoticed. A high immune system helps. The spikes in ammonia could be from a blow to the biological bacteria due to the meds, or just the increased bio load from adding the two fish into a ten gallon. They are stressed, they will excrete more waste than normal. At this point the ich are breeding rapidly because so many are able to feed and reproduce off of just the two fish. I would go with hyposalinity or copper for these guys.

OK....Thanks.....I will try to start hypo tomorrow when I get home from work....
I have done lots of reading, so I hope I know what to do...
OOPS...got a question.....Do you use carbon during HYPO...I did not see that mentioned

Sorry, Meowzer!
Just so you know, I am doing hypo in a 10g now. I couldn't believe it took about 5 days to get the salinity down. I swear I changed out about 15g before it read 1.009. I even went out and bought a new refractometer thinking mine was broken or something.
It wasn't just took alot of freshwater to bring it down.
After I got it there, I mixed up some water at 1.009 and put it in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid so I had it handy for water changes. Also, keep a 5g of fresh ro for top offs.
Hope this helps!

That is up to you. You are just adjusting the salinity of the water so that the parasites are not able to reproduce. Ich parasites need osmosis to reproduce. If the salinity in the outer environment is lower than that inside it's protective casing then osmosis cannot occur, therefore suffocating the impending "birth" of the new generation of parasites. Carbon has no influence either way.

It shouldn't take nearly that long. It should be done in 48 hrs, but it is alright if it takes longer. What I do is pull a good amount of full salinity water out and then dribble fresh water in. It would probably take a lot longer if you replace each cup of saltwater with fresh.

Yea, that's why I mentioned it. I was only changing out 1g at a time. I didn't realize that wasn't enough and it would take a lot more to bring it down!
