Silly- but gotta know... do you go fishing?

I know this is a goofy question... The other day my previous foster daughter was talking about going fishing and how much fun it was and I cringed! I mean, we raise our own beef and chickens, and pigs, but something about fishing just seems torturous or something. I didn't even realize I got this silly about it and tried to trace the aversion to the sport back in my memory.
I think it stems from a red checkered sandperch that I had, that would perch on his fins and hover up off his rock every time I walked into the room. I swear he would stare me down and his eyes would alternately follow my movements... We called him the devil fish...lol. I LOVED that fish. But, so I ask this because I wonder if I am unique in this or if other saltwater hobbyists feel the same way? I am just a beginner, but fishing just sounds gross now that I have 3 tanks of them!

I will fish with my son but they ALL go back and the hook has no barbs. You will find that a lot of the people here do go fishing and love it! I am not one of them LOL

I only keep what I'm going to eat... I love to go fishing and I could honestly work at a fish market. Carp gets thrown on the shore (non-native nuissance species) and the rest go back or on the dinner plate.
I made ling cod (from alaska) and scallop kabobs yesterday dipped in garlic butter with bacon wrapped cream/cheddar cheese stuffed jalapeno poppers for supper. YUM!

i saw a show that had a fishing segment... it was in the Barbados... they caught a very pretty puffer fish, i thought to myself...**gee, i want that fish as a pet**
however, i have to say, you are a hypocrite... big time... you raise cows and pigs, ... pigs are as smart as dogs and make great pets.. cows are sweet and harmless and dumb... but you have no problem killing them... do you also raise dogs for food?
i have a saltwater tank and treat my seahorses as if they are part of my family...i have a 10g guppy tank and throw ugly babies in a ice water bath... i use worms as bait when i fish, if the fish i catch is ugly, i beat it to death...ya... im a hypocrite to.... big time...
i'm not sure what my point is...but i'm sure i had one...

Thanks Pete... I was just posting a silly question. I didn't say people that fish are horrible and cruel or anything. You don't need to bite my head off. I don't care if anyone fishes, I just wondered if the hobby turned anyone else off to it. We kill all our animals humanely and they have a happy life before, we do all natural and pasture raised. I mentioned nothing about animal intelligence or the like. This wasn't an animal cruelty debate, it was just a silly question as I was sitting here watching my damsels swim around in my little tank. I'm new to the forum and didn't realize I would get a volitile response from a dumb question, don't worry, no more silly questions from this hypocrite.

Buy an opinion doesn't mean being mean or essentially telling them their opinion is stupid. I don't care if other people fish, I just bought my 4 year old a lifetime MN fishing and small game license. I just don't really like it anymore. It was just a silly thing. If you thought I was an idiot why not just say nothing and move on instead of making me feel bad?
Thanks for the welcome to the board. I'll stick to technical topics from now on.... I guess I should have felt out the social climate before putting my silliness out there to be attacked. Won't happen again.

Don't feel bad for your question Twist. A question is just that a question. Don't let one person turn you off to asking questions. IMO there is no stupid question only stupid people. And someone that gets mad about a question is just that or maybe his momma didn't love him or something. I think i was a good question. And i feel the same way.
Tank unless your a vegan vegitarian, your just like everyone else. But i know your not because if you were you wouldn't be acting like this!

My goodness people. Quite being jerks. Remeber Thumper from bambi? "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? If you dissagree, then politely say it and then be done with it.
Anyways, I fish with my dad all the time and I've had tons of fish tanks throughout my life. We eat everything we catch, unless it's a garbage fish that eat other good fish and overpopulate the lake, which we kill and feed to the gulls. No waste, and I really have no problem with it. =)

I love fishing. I only like fish prepared a certain way…ocean critters however, like lobsters, crabs, octopus and scallops these are pets, not food
