skimmers? that same old question, I need to make a choice

Hey guys first late me say happy turkey:
I am haveing a hard time about a skimmer, I have 2 choices and lets just say I like good stuff. etss reef devil or # 500 or aqua c 180 or 240. I read both web sites and material , I am leaning to the reef devil. One thing I still don't understand clearly:
the skimmer is to remove waste that is produced from the fish and it takes the load off of the rock and sand , in other words it converts everything to nitrates and it keeps the nitrates a low level. I was told the more use of corals the less powerful skimmer is needed TRUE or FALSE and the more fish the stronger the skimmer TRUE or FALSE.
DO I NEED TO MATCH THE FLOW RATE OF MY RETURN PUMP TO THE SAME FLOW RATE AS THE SKIMMER:
EXAMPLE - MAG 7 TO SKIMMER -- MAG 7 FOR RETURN PUMP
IF MY TANK IS A 90 GAL AND 20 GAL SUMP AND I want fish and coral what is the best way to go in the size of a skimmer, it is not going to be a full reef.
can a skimmer be to powerful for a reef , meaning to much removal.
thanks alot if anyone can answer these final question so I can get a skimmer during the holiday.
"this sounds like a question for broomer " * what do you think guys ? or can a skimmer expert come to my rescue "help"
I will never ask another skimmer ? again
thanks happy turkey

I'm in the same situation....75G reef with 40Gsump 100 lb LR in show tank another 30-40 in sump with 4" DSB in sump. I have a 4' high 6" diam CC skimmer now. I want to upgrade to either the Aqua C 180 or the Precision Marine Bullet 1 or 2....Any thoughts...

I really don't think you can overskim a tank...I don't believe that skimmer remove trace elements which are important to the corals.

NEWFISHLINY,
I HAVE A ETSS 1000 WORKS GREAT, IT REMOVES
A TON OF GUNK. I CLEAN THE UPPER OVER FLOW
SECTION ABOUT ONCE A WEEK, THE BUILD UP IS
THICK AND DARK BROWN. AS FOR THE FLOW RATE
THE IDEAL TURN AROUND RATE FOR MOST
APPLICATIONS IS 4 TIMES PER HOUR, HOWEVER
EACH SYSTEM IS DIFFERENT, YOU'LL HAVE TO
EXPERIMENT. FISH ONLY TANKS NEED THE MOST
FILTRATION, STONEY CORALS NEED THE NEXT
AND SOFT CORALS NEED THE LEAST. MOST PEOPLE
HAVE A COMBONATION, THEFORE THE 4 TIMES
PER HOUR. HOPE THIS HELPS:)

when you talk about turn over rate are you talking about skimmer or the return pump to my tank. if it is the skimmer how does one learn or find out about turn over of a skimmer.

NEWFISHLINY,
YES I MEAN THE FLOW DISCHARGE OF THE
SKIMMER. TO DTERMINE THIS YOU MEASURE
THE TIME IN SECONDS IT TAKES TO FILL
A 5 GALLON BUCKET THEN CALCULATE:
TOTAL GALLONS FILLED DIVIDED BY
SECONDS TO FILL TIMES 350= SKIMMERS
GPH FLOW. I GUESS YOU CAN USE A SMALLER
CONTAINER AS WELL. :)
