Smoke Or Slime coming from snail

i was watching one of my snails and he seemed to have like smoke or slime coming from him. it started out heavier and got lighter. only last about a minute. what was this? is it bad? something wrong with him? or is this normal?

but ive seen alittle slime from time to time from my snails, but its little..

it's bad enough sticking your hand in water that fish ---- in, now i hafta stick my hand in the water after my snail releases :p in it...ewww.

I have no clue how to tell the difference between a male "cloud" and a female "cloud". I suppose if you captured some from the water column and looked under a microscope you could tell the difference. That is waaaaay beyond my abilities.

I may be completely wrong, but aren't most snails hermaphrodites, they just can't fertilize their own eggs? Or am I way off base here?

I believe it's not most but i think some snails are hermaphrodites. I don't know if any are able to self fertilize though. I believe Astrea have distinct male/female individuals but to be honest I'm pretty fuzzy about it so I could be wrong.
