Snail Problems

Greetings all-
I'm having some trouble with my turbo snails. I've had one of my snails die (it started not moving around then it's foot turned brown and shriveled up)and another that is acting like it did before it died (not moving around at all). I've had my tank up for approx 8 months and none of the numbers seem to be bad and it doesn't appear as though the tank is cycling.
I have a 55gal live rock & fish (1 CBS, 1 hermit crab, 1 turbo snail (another missing), and 3 damsels.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

IMO, snails sometimes die... It could be there is nothing wrong. Check for copper & nitrates. You may want a larger cleanup crew in the future.

In my experiences with turbo snails they just seem to die on their own sometimes. I have had this happen as well and my levels and everything else was just fine.

don't know if he has that much live rock and that small of a cleanup crew i'd bet theres plenty for everyone to eat...as it is with my 75 gallon my algae is going nuts around the base so im about to put in an order for more snails and crabs since the few i have are being lazy bums.

Thanks for the replys.
I have 50lbs of live rock and plenty of algae for the snails to eat.

Turbo Snails mostly depend on Diatoms. So it doesn't really matter how much rock & algae you have. It depends on the diatom population.
Granted, one Turbo isn't going to die of starvation in a typical 55. But if you add a lot all at once they can all quickly starve.
I'm not saying this is the problem you are encountering. Just a possibility.
Another thought, do you have any used rock in the system? Someone might have used a copper medication that was adsorbed by the rock and this can kill the snails as they graze over that particular rock and scrape up the CaCO3 laden with copper.
