Looks like Omega watch and Speedo aren't bothered by it...
Luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega termed Phelps' actions a private matter and "nonissue." Swim wear manufacturer Speedo called the 23-year-old American a "valued member of the Speedo team."

Well the alcoholics who kill people while DUI, and the chain smokers who force people to breathe their second-hand smoke will remain wrong in the eyes of many. Unfortunately, the lawmakers don't seem to be bothered by those. Guess the pot smoking community needs to come up with stronger PAC's and lobbyists.

actually it is illegal to smoke most places in PA these days, the lawmakers do seem to care.

the pot smoking community needs to come up with a better line then "it's only pot"

HA, that's funny. Weed is natural, comes from mother nature, people make it look like it is oh so bad because it is illegal and frowned upon, but yet im sure the people who don't like potheads, have a nice stash of liquor in their kitchen, which i'd say is worse.
Weed - gives you the munchies and you laugh alot.
alchohol - so much more can happen.
Let the guy do what he wants, everyone is making a big deal out of nothing.

i find it funny that the majority of people who would make this statement are also the ones who compare abortion to murder. ive had this conversation many times, with many different people.
and once again, who cares?

Sorry hun, but that generality doesn't apply this time. I'm against abortion morally, but feel it should be legal. No one person can say who does or doesn't 'get' abortions, so everyone that wanted to, should be allowed. I am favor of strongly encouraging other programs as well.
As far as who cares, it's the way Phelps built his image. That of a good, clean, holsome "American boy," not a drug users. If this was Ron Artest, or some other punk, then honestly no one would care...

He hasn't lost the endorsements for High Times Magazine or Roll it and Smoke it magazine

How come Willie Nelson can toke it up but an award winning olympic athlete can't take a hit off a bong?

Oh wow, everyone forgave him for drunk driving which actually is dangerous but take a puff and it's the end of the world. I would much rather someone smoke some pot than become an alcoholic, it's not like it's hard to quit pot or anybody is dying from using it. Sure it's illegal but why really? Not because it's harmful but because of propoganda and racism.

first off, dont call me hun. second, of course it doesnt apply to every single person, i didnt say it did. and i dont want to start an abortion argument. all im saying is that i think its funny how someone will knock one thing but then use it themselves in a different form (basically the definition of hypocrisy...) not that im calling you a hypocrite, dont take it personally. im just noting that in my personal experience, this is how it works out 78% of the time.
and also, i wish i had a dime for every "good, clean, wholesome "American boy,"" ive seen doing something that would shock people. i dont see how this kid is any different. youre going to argue that he should set an example because so many people, especially kids, look up to him. who cares? hes a kid. let him be a kid. is he supposed to sacrifice his whole life to be the saint everyone wants him to be?

Well he's a 23 year old with an agent that would have warned him what a picture like this could cost him. It's nice to think he's just a kid doing what kids do but he's also a multi millionaire with a hell of a lot of responsibilities.
I don't really think this is going to do much damage. It isn't like he raped the neighbors cat or something.

i like the way salt nate put it, weed gives you the munchies an you laugh, ALOT, an u dont want to move off the couch, or chair ur sitting in while ur smoking, when u drink, well, i wont begin to tell you some of the horror stories ive both heard and witnessed, i have NEVER heard of anyone smoking weed an then going on a rampage an killin people or getting into fights, thats just way to much work when ur high, but, it happens everyday when people drink
yet, alcohol is legal an weed isnt, go figure

Thats a kinda lame attitude. Like it or not pot is illegal. Why would you respect someone for breaking the law?
So you have a medical MJ card, do you want a gold star? Anyone with a couple hundred bucks in most places can score one.
The government wont legalize it until they can figure out a way to control it. The whole reason it was banned was it wasn't considered respectable enough for the government to tax. I figure once the Kennedy generation dies off in the Senate it will be legalized. But I agree, way too long in coming.

If you need to get loaded to be happy you got issues

I never like getting high. Tried it several times. I have no problem with those who do. Just don't try to tell me it's harmless. It's a drug just and just like the others it is dangerous if abused.
