that 3240 pitches thrown at him (average) per year.
you mean to tell me that 24, or 13 or even 10 which dont quite go the way the pitcher wants and ends up over the wall indicates roids?
you play baseball all your life- you mean to tell me that you have never caught good wood on a curve that didnt have enough movement on it, or as a pitcher, never gave up a free lunch because there just wasnt enough "oomph" on your heater?
c'mon now.
seriously
It's not as simple as saying 24 more pitches weren't located right or that the pitcher took a little off to make up the desparity. It may not seem like it but 24 more pitches that become home runs instead of singles or extra-base hits is an exorbitant amount. That year, 2001, he was 36 and had 476AB and 73HR, thats one HR every 6.5 AB, an amazing ratio.
I searched and saw that Ryan Howard (26yrs old) hit 59 HR last year as a rookie, which is sick. And one would presume he was not on roids because of drug testing now. I know you cant always compare one athlete's talents to another because they face different obstacles. If Howard (at 26) goes on to hit 65-75 HR in any of his future years, and knowing there is drug testing now, I still may not believe Barry hit all those HR because of his 'talent' at 36. But between the Balco case, Canseco's accusations (which I believe), and the similarity to Sosa and McGwire between 1998-2001 there's too much there for me to believe Bond's or the rest of them were clean through all this. I do feel he is a great athlete but for at least 2001, there was something more.
Btw, I don't want you to think I was a 'know-it-all' simply because i said played baseball all my life. I just feel that through my experience of playing it helps to understand these things better than someone who hasnt. But of course we will all have our own ideas about how things went down because we may never know until proof is shown or violations admitted.
