I have a 90g that is lit with 2X175w MH's and two NO actinics. I am thinking about ordering some SPS frags. I am wondering if my lighting will be sufficient.
Thanks

I don't have any personal experience with sps but I don't think that 175's would be the best option to have sps under. I have 2 175w mh on my 90 and won't try sps. I don't feel there is enough light.

they the sps are fine ..as long as you keep them on top also do not get any of the sps that need relly high lighting. there are some that requier less light. talk to a sps expert and they can tell you which ones would be best.. yes the 250w would be better. i have 2 250w MH and 2 VHO 110 w over a 75 gallon.. but i love the clams:) .. good luck

Try some of the branching Montipora species first and see how they do. They are among the hardiest of sps and require less light that Acropora.

I should have said that I would be placing them close to the top if I choose to get them. 5" or less from the surface seems to be the guideline for 175w. I also have a new tank plan that will have 250w or better, it may be worth the wait.
The species that I am selecting from are frags of Capicornus, A. Gemifera, Lettuce coral(Leptoserus) and Green Porite. Are any of these considered hardy varieties?
