I have a top for it but I didn't like it because I cannot flip it open with my lights on it. I guess I will have to suffer and put it on. I don't wanna lose another fish...
That was the girlfriends fish so she wasn't too happy when I broke the news to her...

LOL....I also hate the eggcrate lid I made for my 29G...everytime I have to do soemthing I have to lift one side of the light, and take the top off....BUT it beats crispy dried up fishies...LOL
Very nice pics...now you need an updated fts :)

Girlfriend already left for work and took her camera back home. I need to tell her to keep it here and if she needs it she can borrow it. I will get a FTS next time I can get the camera from her.
LFS is gettin me another Royal Gramma and I will have the lid on the QT this time.
I run my DT topless though so I don't know what to do there. I like it topless. Looks nicer and the light doesn't get blocked by anything (ie. eggcrate, salt creep, etc.)

WOW...very nice....is that a squamosa clam??? If so they like to be in the sand.
I would put it right in front...what are your lights again? (too lazy to look back ;) )

Not sure on the kind of clam I don't know the differences between the species. I am trying to figure that out as we speak. If it is I will definitely place it in the sand.
I have a Current Nova Sundial 4x24w T5-HO fixture and I love it!

If the clam is happy there, mantle extending, reacting to shadows going over it, leave it be it will be fine. I think it may be a T. dereasa which is another clam that lives in the substrate but if it ain't broke, I say don't fix it.
No the open brain on the right should be in the substrate because the flesh may get irritated by the rocks.

Thanks for the advice!
I can never tell the difference between the clams...
As for the brain the problem is that I don't have enough open space on the substrate to place it. The thing is seriously almost 6" in diameter. I guess I can see what I can do but I have a feeling I am going to need to tear down my rock work again to fit it in the substrate.
Do you think there will be any conflict between my brain and plate if they are nearby?

Yes.
How long has the brain been in it's current location? If it is pretty stable there, flesh not blowing around in the flow, it may be okay there. Just know that their preferred location in the wild is the sand.

It has only been there since Saturday. It doesn't really blow around at all it seems to open all the way and since I fed it (Sunday) it has had its feeder tentacles out most of the time.
I generally dose a cap full of DT's Phytoplankton every other day and feed with brine, squid, mysis, or marine cuisine every other day as well.
I will watch it and the clam and see if they seem to be happy but will most likely move both when I get a break from homework that I can find the time.

Been a little while...
Just got done doing a water change and moving stuff around to make room for the clam and brain on the substrate. I think it looks pretty good but I again don't have the girlfriends camera to post it.
I have been having a little nitrate issue as well that I am trying to get to the bottom of (maybe overfeeding).
Just tested and results were as follows:
SG 1.026
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 30
pH 8.2
dKH 7
Calcium 480
Copper 0
Phosphate 0
To me everything looks great but the Nitrates issue.
I also picked up a new Royal Gramma to replace the suicidal one and it is now in quarantine awaiting approval for its new home (yes the tank is covered this time!
)

Buying corals has been put on hold for a short bit until more money comes in but I am hoping to get some new ones sometime soon.

i like how you made use of your dead clam. I think you shoud get a sun coral to put in the middle cave
For the cost of that thing I gotta keep it, even if its dead.

I'm not a big fan of sun corals. If I wanted one I could talk to my dad and have him frag some of his for me. I just don't see the hype tho.

Royal Gramma is happily swimming in the tank now! Its the girlfriends fish and she named it Lola.

I also got a tail spot blenny and it is now in QT so if all goes smoothly like the Gramma it will be in the tank on November 12th.

No new corals lately as I haven't been looking hard because now that college has resumed money is a little more scarce.

Just added the Blenny today. Still nothing new otherwise.
I have been having an issue with my hard corals (blastos aside).
They have all been receding and showing their skeletons and a few have died. I am not sure what is wrong.

Everything seems to be pretty well controlled otherwise. The only thing I see is that spaghetti and tree corals seem to be stinging some other softies and maybe they are "polluting" the water and effecting the LPS. (not in physical reach though)
