I do have an algae scrubber, but having had surgery on my neck & right shoulder, it's been difficult to keep the tank as clean as I would like. I am now retired.

here here...I had surgery on my right shoulder on October 19th and am STILL in physical therapy...I found out a week or two ago that there is now nerve damage that is keeping me from having full usage of my arm (golf, coaching baseball, bowling are all out of the question at the moment
).
On a brighter note...after checking out all of your beautiful tangs, I got my first one yesterday...a BEAUTIFUL, very active, very hungry lavender tang (about 4-5")...

The larger the tank, the larger the headaches. You don't know how many times I have wished I only had my original 55 gallon tank. Seems like it is always one thing after another with the tank.

My Dr told me that it is going to have to be something that I am going to have to learn to deal and live with.
Tangs are my favorite fish. Lavender's are great. I lost the one that I had some time ago and have always thought about getting another, but just don't have any more room.

my doctor told me that I would probably only need 3-4 weeks of PT after my surgery...after my follow up appointment, he said that another 3-4 weeks of therapy would put me right where I wanted to be...that was 4 or 5 weeks ago!!! I WILL coach baseball and play golf this year, or the doctor will get tired of seeing me, I'm only 31...I should have another 30 or so years of golf left in me!
Here is my lavender...I never noticed the spots on his face until I saw the picture...he never stops swimming long enough to get a good look. He is tearing up any and all algae sheets that I put into the tank and loves his new homemade frozen food!

It's been a while since I have updated this thread. The tank has pretty much been running on cruise control with the help of some local friends. The tank is more than I can handle right now so I have made the decision to find a new home for the tank.
I have decided to donate the tank, equipment & livestock to the local Sertoma Club which operates a Butterfly House facility here in town. They have agreed to build a permanent exhibit to house this tank and a couple of my others for the public to be able to view and enjoy. I think that the tanks will make a great addition to the brilliant colors of the rainforest's butterflies.
To create a little excitement before the remodeling begins and the tank is moved, we set up a 210 gallon tank with African Cichlids in the lobby of the facility to draw attention to the fact that a new exhibit will coming. With the help of some of the local friends, the tank was torn down, moved and setup in an afternoon.
There wasn't much I could do other than watch, so I took a couple of pictures. I hope to go back and get a picture of the tank once the water has cleared up.

Sorry to hear that you cannot keep up with the tank, quite frankly I was wondering when it would happen. Your absence in posting really got me thinking you would be getting out of the "Big" SPS tank business. However what a wonderful thing to do the donation. This way you can still "consult" in its upkeep and still go and sit and admire it knowing that your hard work got it to where it is.
How many and what size if any tanks will you keep?
Well done my friend I will always admire the work you put into this tank.

I just read this thread, start to finish and I just want to say thank you for sharing this trip :) Sorry to see it leaving your house, but it's going to be seen and enjoyed by loads of people in person. Great job.

I am planning on keeping my other African tank along with the 470 gallon reef. The rest of the tanks will go to the Butterfly House if there is a place for them in the new exhibit. They have an architect working up plans right now.
