Starting my fry tank build

I have decided to go with the design used by SH Source for my fry tank, except much smaller.
Today I bought a 10 gal round tub - They only had red, so red it is.
Wood to build a stand for the tub, that a 5 gal bucket will fit under for a sump.
the sump will not be divided, it will just have a filter sock and a return pump-Will throw in a bag of purigen for good measure.
Still need to buy a bulk head, and go thru my plumbing stuff to see what I will need.
Will be starting the stand soon-pic later

went today and got more wood and a few plumbing supplys I knew I needed. I will try to get to the fish store today for a bulkhead. my kids got out of school early today. I still have one more to go get in about 45 min. I'm going to run down to the lfs after I get her.
once i get the bulkhead, and go look in the garage at what pipe I have, I can start figuing out the plumbing.

no not really, will have to research it.
I got the stand done, and the bulkhead installed. I think I got just about everything I need. Will post some pic in a bit.

Teresa - looking good - the last picture the slot goes on the bottom fitting for the drain and the outer tube controls the height of the water am I correct. Do any of the babies ever get sucked in.

if the flow is too strong, the may get stuck against the screen on the bottom of the outter tube.
The inner tube is shorter then the outer tube. the water goes in thru those hole with screen over them, then goes down the center tube to the filter sock.

I like where you're going with this.
How about a flow diffuser to make sure the babies would never get stuck? I'm thinking of a kitchen strainer made of poly (I know they sell 'em...), inverted. You'd cut a hole in the "top" of the dome to let the pipe pass through, and seal the wide end to the bottom of the tub with silicone. Seems like increasing the surface area like this would decrease the chances of any one animal getting sucked against the screen, while maintaining a higher overall flow rate.
Or am I totally off the wall here?

that might work for older fry, but new borns are very tiny. This batch could get thru the tiny squares in plastic craft canvas. If is am remembering right, Dan uses 670 micron for new borns and window screen for bigger fry.
I wish I had used the sch 80 bulkhead, just because I think the 2 inch sleeve would have fit better. It has a higher profile on top

Ah, OK. I know they make poly seives with a very small screen size (I own one, in fact...I looked), but it might be a moot point. The castings produced by the fry would likely not be able to pass through and filter out properly. Might be a thing to experiment with as the babies get bigger, as you say.
