Nah, she is Sicilian and "creates masterpieces" in there. I do help when I can and I don't mean just the dishes. Ha!

I'm single and I'll let you spend whatever you want on a tank! :hilarious just kidding- I really hope you can work it out especially since you have a little guy around. Life is to short not to get what you want. Tell her the kid can get a scholarship.

Maybe she is having something that is similar to the male mid-life crisis thing, only it's related to the post partum. "Oh my God, we just had a baby. We're adults now. We have no plans, no investments, no savings, what are we doing? And he wants to spend 3000 DOLLARS on a fish tank!?!?! Doesn't he know how much it costs to raise a child?!?!?!"
If she did grow up poor, she could also be just an old-fashioned tight wad. My husband and I love our tank, but some anonymous members of my family occaisionally make comments like, "I'd like to have the money you spend on a bunch of fish."

Are you talking about the reef shop? Next to mathis brothers, on reno, that has to be the reef shop, really nice place, I actually got a system priced there. What do you mean set me up?

So anyway, one day out of the blue, I get a call, and I inherit like 80,000 from an Aunt I've never met before.
Finally, I can spend a chunk (only about 2,000) on a decent aquarium that actually has a sump and is big enough for some stability, and the wife won't hear about it. I am just stressing out right now, bleah!!

That comes out to something like %3.7.
Is that extreme?
Does anyone else here have crazy others in their lives that won't let them have the aquariums they want?
You are sooooooooooo whipped, it's not funny. What are you going to do w/ the rest of the 80K, buy her shoes?

i would remind her that you are the head of the house, and if she doesn't like it she can sleep outside, im all for having a good relationship, but she should not have a say in what you do with your money if the family/home is taken care of...everyone needs something to spend there money on. ask her if she would prefer you to be addicted to fish and corals...or booze and drugs. ...fish will come out way ahead...and if she doesn't like it...kick her :)
hehe ...im joking...
seriously though, pray about it and ask that God would allow her to use her brain and understand that fish are amazing, and ask God to help you understand that wives are nuts...and that they need to you buy them fish..and it will make both of you happy in the end :)
hehe

OMG, that is crazy that your wife is that selfish that she wont let you do something that you really enjoy, or start a hobby that interest you. I would have kept my mouth shut about the 80g's and ::edit:: ( no offense ), because obviously she doesnt want you to be happy, she wants your attention on her...selfish ::edit::
CASE IN POINT: Shes pissed off that you received a sh-t load of money and not her, and you get to go on a shopping spree while she sits on the sidelines and watches. BELIEVE ME once she found out that you were getting a sh-t load of money, she already had an idea what she wanted to spend it on and it wasnt....a fishtank.
...i...am a God damn Genius
::edit::
(sorry, i got ahead of myself and didnt read the entire post. I just read the part about the nest egg. But i still hit the nail on the head...she had the money spent already)
Which means...i still...am a God damn Genius!

I have to say I don't understand some women, My husband and I both work on our tanks together (55 fw, 29 sw). We're just starting our saltwater, It's still cycling, try to involve your wife in the whole process like picking out the tank and stand and show her pictures of the coral and fish that you can put in one, maybe if you included her in it she would feel like it's hers too. If not, then give her a couple of thousand and tell her to take a girlfriend somewhere fun and you'll watch the baby, I would give my husband anything he wanted for that!!! hah.

Just making sure you knew about the place. Love the KNOWLEDGEABLE staff there. What ya think about EVERY SINGLE TANK in there being sooooo clean and NOT 1 skimmer in the whole place? They are very friendly and I do believe about everything they tell me. Whats your experiences been. (not to hijack the thread; kind of why I wanted you to email me. Ha!)

Dude, just go buy the set-up and then tell your wife you inherited it too!

Either that or take her to your city's local aquarium and get her into the hobby and how relaxing it can be watching the fish.
If both option "A" and option "B" fail feel free to pimp slap her.

Ive been married for 6 years and I am so glad my wife isnt anything like yours. Who cares how much you spent..it was YOUR aunt that passed away. It's less than $5,000...you have $75,000 left over...tell her to literally get over it and find a hobby. I have an amazing marriage and my wife didnt care one bit I dropped $1,000 on starting a tank about 6 weeks ago.

Alright, everyone knows the wifes the prob. Lets get off that and help this guy figure out how to get his system running as inexpensive as possible. I know if I had this problem I wouldn't want more people telling me how much of a b***h the women I love is. On one of his other posts I tried to suggest slimming his costs by cutting uneeded items. If anyone else can help cut his costs, without offering links to other sites of course, maybe he can get his dream tank going.

I agree there are alot of things you don't "need" right away. Plus there are other "cheaper" places to get these things.
Ok, master plan. Take her down to Harley Davidson World in Oklahoma City. Show her a $24,000 bike and tell her this is really what you want. She will get all bent and then speakless for a couple of days and then "It would be like her idea" for you to get the tank. Drop the bike idea and OK TO THE TANK!
 :hilarious

Thanks BigB! Exactly what I was thinkin'. Love is grand. There are 2 sides to every story. and all that jazz. Looks like he is taking back Cichlids to make room for saltwater. good compromise. h*
