Stupid Question, but would like an answer...

Hello :)
If you have read my previous post, you will see that i am getting a Dwarf Lionfish.
What i want to know is, if the Lionfish was to sting me, or a family member, what would be the best thing to do?
This might seem a stupid question, but if i, or a younger child in the family got stung, i would like to know what to do...
Thanks for any replies.

Yes, hot water neutralizes the poison. As hot as you can stand. The sting will hurt like the dickens so you'll be able to stand some pretty hot water ;)

Go to the hospital? Are you serious? Man, i didnt know it was that bad..
What are the results of a lionfish sting?
Thanks,
James

It depends if your allergic or not. Some people have really bad reactions to lion stings and have to be taken to the hospital and I've even heard of people dieing from them. Although for most I believe it just hurts like hell but I'd go just to be safe.

I have also read that besides hot water and a visit to the treatment center you should also put either vinegar or alcohol over the wound.
Also if stung by one or two rays, most adults should be able to withstand the pain.

This is a direct quote from "the aquarium answer book"
"First dip the sting in hot water to coagulate the venom. Then pour white vinegar on it for the pain. If you're only stung by 2 or 3 stingers, the pain shouldnt be that bad. However if you're allergic to the venom, seek medical attention."
Dwarf lions are NOT volitan lions and I can not be sure that they also sting. Still, be aware at all times where he is when your arms is in the tank!!
