sump/fuge size

75 gallon tank, currently using a 2 piece refuge and wet/dry setup. i want to make it into one tank under my DT. I grabbed a box from work, and sizewise its bout 24"x12"w. I was able to slide it in under my stand, with about 5" to spare so i think i'm going to get a 30x18x12 tank, which should be either 30 or 29 gallons. is this going to be big enough?

Yes, you will be fine. I am using a 29 gallon sump for my 75 gallon tank. Usually you get as big of a sump as you can comfortably fit in your stand.

thanks :) now to plan the baffles. local hardware will cut glass to whatever size i need :jumping: and not charge me for the cut, just whatever glass it came from.
is 1/8" glass ok, or should it be thicker?

I went 1/4 inch on mine and it was cheap enough, I'd rather be safe than sorry, and it seems closer to the glass on the outside of the aquarium.

that's what i thought i had seen, but for some reason they only had 1/8 panes. i'll have to look closer, or go to the big box stores. any clue how easy/hard it is to cut glass?

Go to a local glass shop. The 1/8 is for windows, too brittle. you want to get the glass cut. you can drill the glass yourself, but it would be hard to achieve a straight line on the glass.

i'm still debating the 2 inlet, fuge on one side, skimmer on the other with the pump in the middle, or the 1 inlet skimmer, fuge, pump. there's too many pros/cons to both. since i can understand the plumbing a little better, i may go with the one inlet one.

to totally plagerize your pic signguy, i'll probably end up doing this one. I'm assuming flow is left to right? would the skimmer go in the intake compartment, and where would the rubble rock go?

I would say skimmer would go where the intake is and the rubbles and such go to the right and the macro in the middle so I think you might want to make that part on the left a bit higher.

i think the reason the left baffle is so low is to let the chaeto get a good flow of water over it. the water level will get up to the top of the right baffle. I'm thinking about putting eggcrate next to the baffle on the left to keep anything in there as well.
so i need to figure out how tall my insump skimmer is, and make sure my first baffle is low enough for the opening. I was thinking about making a drip filter with some bio balls from my wet/dry (they actually have life thriving in them, go figure), then the water goes into a chamber with the skimmer in it, then into the DSB and chaeto, then into rubble rock (pod breeding, unless rubble rock goes with the dsb) and then pumped out. would this work?
