well i just bought a TINY TINY TINY sun coral from my LFS for $15... the manager said it must have chipped off of a larger rock. well the largest polyp is about two centimeters in diameter, which i think is a tad small for mysis... i was wondering what i should feed it until it gets bigger? i read on here that cyclopeze and DTs wont keep it happy for long, so i was wondering what i should get for it. frozen brine maybe?
thanks!

i'm not really sure about the cyclopeeze not keeping it happy...but thats what i've always fed my sun coral...i've had it oh maybe 6-8months now i think..you could always chop the mysis a bit more too.
they arent looking the best withs ome of those super tiny ones...but i'm sure the rock can be just fine with normal feedings etc.

I agree with Bronco300, I feed my sun coral frozen Cyclop-Eez almost exclusively (a little frozen mysis once in a while) and it has been doing great since I got it in June.

Suncorals do need a meaty food at least once a week to ensure growth and long term survival. Give yours some mysis, you will be surprised how much they can eat. If it just won't fit cut the mysis in half and feed. You will want to feed yours at least every other day to regain the lost tissue surrounding every polyp. It should be solid orange throughout the entire coral.

sweet thanks everyone. i fed it mysis (it ate a lot!) and its looking better already!
do you think it would benefit it any to feed it everyday untill it gets healthier? it wouldnt really affect my water quality because my fish eat all the escaped food.
edit// reread & saw this. thanks!

Yea I thought mine had some bad tissue loss. Just dont get lazy (I know Im starting to but Im fighting it) and feed it every day/every other day. Its going to need a good long time of babying to get that one where it should be. Sure itll be fine though. Feed mine cyclops and brine every other night. Heres a pic of mine the 3rd day after I got it and thats about half open as it gets now.

I feed mine the same seafood mush that i feed my anenomes and my fish. i've had it almost a year now, and only feed it once or twice a week. the polyp and skin extension i have is amazing over how i got it.
pics are
1) dormant, morning very little polyp extension but good showing of how many polyps there are
2) polyps waking up once i put a LITTLE bit of food in to entice polyp extension, meaning its time to eat
3) polyps almost fully awake
4) later on after eating

My polyps are nutty big, I feed alot and have it shaded.
First pic is when closed up but you can see all the many little buds.
Second is right before I fed it. This is like 2 months ago also...MUCH bigger and better now!

oh no, that sun coral looks really bad and almost dead. I hope it has enough energy to open up..ur gonna have a lot of hard time trying to get it to eat. The healthy ones look like soft gum balls when they are closed. Good luck though...and $15 bucks? I would of bought it for maybe $5 if that. Hopefully you can bring it back to good health. Keep feeding it mysis or silveslides.

actually despite looking like crap when i got it every single polyp opens pretty much all day and night and it eats like crazy. so im thinking it will pull though.

Thank you very much. Thats awesome that it was your desktop, that makes me feel really good. I feed mine every other day no matter what. My biggest polyp's skeleton is maybe JUST under an inch. They are biiiig

Your sun will pull through it is already looking better. It will be fun to watch it grow into itself.

it is. im really happy with it, even moreso than i think i would be if i had bought a healthier one. there are 2 groups of four polyps that are connected (like they have the tissue between them) and the tissue has gotten a lot thicker and oranger. the polyps themselves are also looking really good, all fat and bright, and much bigger! yay! theyre even open most of the day.
