anyone here use the sure flow 1600 mods for the maxijets? if so, have you used a maxijet mod or a koralia, and which do you prefer and why?

I have the maxijet mod on my 1200, in my 65.(DIY mod) It flows a lot of water, I dont know about the boxed mod. But it does look like a good mod.

Hey Isis,
I think I sent you the video of the maximod DIY I did before. Well the high flow mod was too much for my 65, plus it wasnt the best quality work, so I dont use it.
But I just ordered the 1600 sure flow mod and it should be in by Wednesday next week.
Ill let you know how it is when I get it.

thanks gator.
i have 2 900 mods and a 1200 mod as well as 2 koralia 4's. however, 1 900 is shot (the cap where the prop shaft goes has been bored out so the shaft doesn't stay in anymore. my 1200 just never worked right. it would spin for no more than a minure or 2 before reversing and then never go back the proper way. i have my koralias in my 30g frag tank. there is tremendous flow, but i would like a little more than the 1200 gph out of each one for my 135g dt

Here you go. I love this thing already. Its the easiest ever to put together. Its just like taking apart the MJ1200 and putting it right back together. That simple. I now have 2 modded Tunze 6025s and a SureFlow modded MJ1200. with my Mag 7 return, its lots o'flow!
The parts (plus I ordered the magnet):

The unit installed:

Also, it hasnt clicked from starting the wrong way, but Ive only started and stopped it a few times. There is a slight hum, but I read on -- that that goes away after it breaks in a little.

The sure flo mod is awesome, I wish it was out when I modded my maximods. It is way easier, no cutting and gluing together. And the magnet mount is worth the money without a doubt, we all know how well suction cups last....

have you guys seen the new ECO SYSTEMS ECOMOD ?
The new ECOMOD works with all Maxi-Jet pumps to increase the flow by 10 times the standard output. Anti Reverse-Flow technology prevents the impeller from spinning the wrong way. Simple and easy to attach! Includes pump shroud and pre assembled impeller.

Yeah, Im still digging the Sure Flow mod. Its running pretty quiet now and the flow is much more random with the powerheads setup the way I have them.
But this other one is intriguing too.
Increase Flow 10x?? Not sure how that is possible. The DIY maxi-mod that we've all tried would be the max flow increase, I would have assumed.
Ive seen where people are modding the sure-flow to give it a larger impellar and getting more flow. Modding a mod is pretty hilarious.!!

yeah, I thought with the sure flow that if you use a bigger prop, that
a. you have to trim out the inside of the shroud and b...the magnet will not spin it if it is too big.
If I had a sure flow mod, I would just leave well enough alone.

hey mike-
are you planning on having sps in your tank? the sure flows seems really sweet. i haven't gotten any yet, but i will see them in action this weekend. supposedly they will be coming out with an upgrade for the 1200 to produce nearly 2500gph within the next few months, but i don't know when. just a rumor i heard. you surely won't be disappointed in them. just think about how mush flow you really wan to have in your tank, and think about the mounting. there are several different ways to mount them.

I just ordered the Eco Mod, what is all this talk about Magnets? Do you use them to hold the Powerhead in place? If so how? I seem to remember a thread with a link to a magnet distributor. Help me out!!

somwhere on pg 8 or 9
yeah you def want to use magnets to hold the ph to the glass. simply because at somepoint the suction cups will fail, and the last thing you need is 1500gph ph pointing at you substrate (unless ofcourse it is bb)

Theres another new kit coming out called the Triton Aquatics Gulfstream II High Flow. They offer a medium flow kit as well. The high flow kit is suppsed to be well over 2000gph. I may order that and swap out the shroud and impellar assembly with my sure flow kit.

Mike,
Many people have high high flow in 125 g tanks. I would think that two sure flow kits on 2 MJ1200s and 2 regular MJ1200s would be fine in your tank. Place the Sure flow kits in the two back corners facing the middle front glass. That should give you plenty of water movement without the sand being stirred up.
And you dont need a chiller for SPS. Just consitent temp without too much swing. Their temp range is similar to other corals in my experience.
