Review of the Triton from the guy that first perfected the mj mods dhnguyen on --.
As promised, I received the Triton Aquatics Gulfstream II kit and tested it against the Sureflow 1600. Here are my findings below:
1. The GS2 is much sturdier built with better material.
2. The GS2 shroud is slightly larger possibly allowing for larger propellers to be used. Assuming your MJ pump can spin them of course.
3. Side by side, the medflow GS2 w/ Octura 1435 is about the same in terms of flow but is noticeably quieter. I believe this is probably due to the the Octura 1435 prop used which is more streamlined (re: sharper prop blades) and more balanced than the Sureflow's prop.
4. The highflow GS2 w/ the larger Dumas 3004 prop literally blew the Sureflow out of the water in terms of flow. Easily 2000+ gph.
5. What I DO like better in the Sureflow is the ball joint mount which allows for better positioning of the MJ pump. Whereas the current GS2 mount can only swivel side by side. Now I was told by Triton Aquatics that a new ball joint mount will be avalable in mid-November.
6. Now here's the one thing that sets the GS2 kits above all the rest. Since the propeller is removeable/switchable, you can essentially mix and match propellers to your heart's content. Basically any -- boat propellers using a standard 3/16" shaft hole can be used as long as your MJ pump and spin them.
The new GS2 kits will be released some time this week and prices are as below:
$14.99 for a medium flow kit and $15.99 for a high flow kit

Where in a medium size town (Jacksonville Florida) would you find magnets of that variety? Do they have to be Epoxy coated? I would rather not order them online.

i doubt you will find this sort of product locally. its a very specialized thing , so unless there was a company that made them in your town, it is unlikely. Gaussboys.com was fast and good , safe service. epoxy will prevent scratching your tank.

I found another site that had them...I got 6 55-60lb pull magnets for $16 including shipping. Appearently they got 10,000 of these and they were not up to technical spec for manufacturing or industrial purposes, but they are strong, cheap magnets (Great for us with moth laden wallets). I plan on making all my power heads magnets, I am tired of putting them back up. I will epoxy them (I build R/C Airplanes and have a ton of it laying around.)

i have a 125 reef tank im building and i have 4 maxijet 1200's in it right now.. i would think making all 4 sureflow would be absolutely crazy in the tank so i decided to just now order 2 sureflow for one of each side... and keep 2 just regular 1200's at the top middle and plus i have 2 returns.... well see how that works out.. i just got done ordering the sureflows and the 60lb magnets. i hope my sand doesnt go crazy once these are on both sides of the tank

that's a good idea mike. i had 4 maxijet 900s in my 135, then modded 2 of them with the mj mods. i loved the flow. now i'm down to just 1 mod, but i will get something soon. you should be very happy with 2. i was.

sweet. right now im having a problem like always particals flying around looks like mini bubbles but its actually not.. alot of stuff from sand and i look closely as it is without sureflow. and i see the tiny pieces of debris and sand get picked up and then shoot around so my tank is never crystal clear yet... im worried about the sureflow maybe ill just have to lift them up a little more..

The shurflows are awesome. I setup 2 in an 8' 240, one at each end, will be putting 2 more in soon and removing the closed loop set-up. 4 of these will give this tank more ramndom flow than it has ever seen.
I can't believe I can run a 240 on 4 maxijet mods alone. Wish these had been out before spending $100s on a high maintanance closed loop.

These ones are already nickel coated, I'll have to see how smooth they are. If I were to epoxy them, I would probably thin out the epoxy a bit with alcohol and brush several coats (letting each one cure, 5 minute epoxy should do it.) on the side that would attach to the glass. Just enough not to scratch your glass.

Look at Lowe's, they have some strong ceramic magnets, they don't rust, you might have to use a couple of them but they are cheap. (2 for 3$ of so). I have several of them in my tank and I love them, no problems. I also used one of the smaller round ones for my thermometer. I hate suction cups!

LOL yeah. Only the email link works. They are taking orders on the product even though no actual info is out on them on the website itself.
