Mike,
I dont see how 4 regular MJ1200s could cause a sand stir in a 125. I have a total of around 4500 gph in my 65g which is only 3' long. My sand is fine.
It all depends on how you aim the powerheads and if the flows are aimed into each other, it will create the random turbulent flow that corals like. Just keep them aimed away from the sand and towards the middle/upper half of the front glass.

i have to agree with gator, that as long as the mods are placed in such a direction that they are not pointed down, they will not move any sand in a 6' tank (or a 4' - don't know which u have). i had 2 mjmod 900's in my 135 (6') and nothing moved except the corals (and fish)

i cant figure out why my tank sand gets picked up not HELLA just enough to never have a clear tank. lol... also i noticed tiny bubbles are comming from the sand bed.... wtf?? floating up and then there just being blown around constantly making the tank not crystal clear if i can solve the bubble and the particle flow problem. my tank would be set!

bubbles in the sand are probably nitrogen bubbles being released from bacteria. whats your no3 level like?

i just did a 40 gallon water change. because it was reading 20-25. i did it yesterday and its still reading like 50..... i dont understand it... after a 40 gallon water change it like went up..
*edit*
actually now i let it sit it looks higher than 50.
*edit #2* decided to test ammonia and it was 0 and nitrite was highest on card to.. like 4 or watever the card max's out at. i took a turkey baster and blaster the dust and particles off the rocks.. just now.. i think thats what it is.... cause now my tank has BILLIANS of floating tiny particles.... so i guesss il just try to keep doing that until the filter pad i have in the sump collects it all. i thought i was done cycling... but i guess not.. i wanna go run my green chromis back to the fish stores.. i feel bad im not a fish killer i swear!!!...
its also funny cause the second day with the metal halides on for 5 hours i got brown algae on the rocks.... then i put like kent phos watever and i moved powerheads a little bit and alot went away.. now i have like none.. its crazy so i dont have any snails or hermits yet cause its not growing anything.. and i dont wanna starve them..

but seriously, sounds like you are still cycling or kicking up your sand bed.

yes i guess im still in cycle.. i feel soo bad.. poor chromis... everyday i get home from work i gotta fish atleast one out of my overflow box.. are they that stupid ahaha. always getting stuck in the overflow box ahaha
but its annoying.. yes the majority of it is sand..... i cant tell its very very small stuff and some noticable from the sandbed. i dont think its bubbles if i look at the sandbed closely ill watch the flow swirl some fine pieces around and then up up and AWAY!!! lol... i moved them up.. all 4 of them are like 5inches from top.. and the returns are at the top i have them blowing straight acrosss on top nothing aimed down either... i turned off skimmer to see if anything helps at all to see if any bubbles are present since there sooo small its hard to see if its bubbles but most is particles i tried to just blow turkey baster around on rocks and sand to pick up the very light pieces and hoping my filter pad grabs it but its just never ending... dam caribsea live sand in bags.. any ideas?

you can always turn off all of the ph's and let it settle out. and shame on you!!!! you should have used a shrimp from your supermarket for your cycle. wait until nitrites hit 0, then do a nice big water change 40% or so.
you'll be good to go

if i turn off powerheads..... i dont think it will settle the return will keep it going LOL... i know shame on me.. i totally feel bad i made a big mistake...

pfffffftttttt goddddd still floating crap... i swear this is gonna irritate me more than anything until i finally get crystal clear water.... i need to figure this out once my sureflows come i have a feeling its gonna be get worse unless i know what it is...
when u buy the bagged live sand.. 6 bags were expired i didnt care 2 were brand new... i put them in. i didnt rinse and swish around in saltwater sooo is this common when like the tiny light light pieces are floating around or does this happen when cycling or new sand does some chemistry cause floating tiny tiny tiny dots or i dunnnnnnnnnnnnno i just tried everything im even thinking about turning off my return for all day and seeing if it gets crystal clear...

my aim name is mggray87 if u have it.... if ur willing to help me solve this BS lol... just cause its faster.. or i can live with this. lol
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/169630/progress-pictures-on-my-125-reef-setup#post_1244368 this has pics of my setup my sump if u see what can be causing the bubbles IF IT is... but i swaer i dont think it is.. lol i turned skimmer around so sponge and exit is all the way to the right.
*EDIT UPDATE* i just turned off all the power to my tank to see how it looks when it all settles... some of it floats.. like its DUST or small particles floating..... and some is just hovering in the water............

hey jeff, my nitrite is gone maybe has a tad color left... so its improving.. lol. and the filter socks looks like it got a bunch of stuff cause its changing colors... but stuff is still blowing around maybe it will just improve as months go by.. i went to my LFS that has good stuff his little desk reef has the particles blowing around too its not bubbles mine are just blowing so much faster so its annoying and ugly to the eye and my lights are 20x stronger so u can see them... and also i put into consideration my tank isnt fulll of colorfull corals so ur not looking at anything yet so the particles are the only thing to catch ur eye. i need that coraline to help the color LOL

glad to hear that it's imroving. clean out the sock and re-use. as all of the levels get back into order, the precipitate will stop. btw - what's your mg level?

the last time i checked it before the cycle started it was 1380

holyyyyy shiiiiz!
i just got the 2 sureflows for my tank one on each side pointed right at eachother i have to have them up at the very top of my tank cause my sand still gets some swirl flow and picks it up... amazing. keep them high and u stil get the flow hitting eachother and the other 2 1200's facing eachother at the top middle and the lower tank seems to get plenty of flow.... including 2 returns... lol
havnt figured out where to point all these jets so the sand doesnt move.. but i guess if i see a little movement it will help with algae... idunno
