Surge Device to replicate wave action

Does anyone use any type of surge device on thier tank. I've been reading and came accross some interesting information on thier use. Basically a small tank above the DT into which you pump water from the DT. There would be float inside that "dumps" the water back into the DT via a toilet type valve and pipe, creating a "wave".
Thoughts anyone...

That's a neat looking design... I'm just a little confused as to why it has a trap located between the valve and the outlet tube. Also, why does the siphon pipe have to be submerged? It looks like water will flow out of it whether it is submerged or not.

I have 2 on my Lagoon. They go off about every 90 seconds but they have different fill rates. About once an hour they both go at the same time and really stir things up.
